This place was old and needed some upkeep on the grounds but the room was comfortable and clean. The park is across the street and there is an Italian bar/restaurant right next door. I would probably stay there again if in the area.

The room was very clean and well maintained. Sure the fixtures were dated, but that is part of the charm of an older property. The owners were friendly and very happy to make sure our stay was a good one.

We absolutely loved our stay at Big Bear Lodge. The sweetest couple own it and they were so accommodating. The room was thoughtfully planned out and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning worked great. The grounds were nicely kept. And one of the owners does the artwork for the rooms and outside. She is quite good. The location is perfect, right across the street from Thunder Bay. There are restaurants within walking distance. We will definitely stay there again when we are in Alpena.

My husband has family/friends in Alpena so we make trip up there from Allegan usually every year and its coming tradition to stay in the familt suite at the Lodge. I know its for families but its perfect for us. Plenty of space. Has the feeling of being in your little apartment since I cant stand hotels. The big bear lodge is affordable, clean, comfy and quiet. Never have any issues. Sleep perfectly. Its conveniently located near restaurants and shopping and the lake. Absolutely love it. Highly recommend

Everyone was very nice. Good location - walk to the farmers market, beach, splash pad, and food options. Not clean - Nail clipping and hair were abundant from previous renters. Calling the apartment a "two bedroom" is a stretch. There is a living room with a bed and another bedroom. "Lake view" is also a stretch, you can see a bit of the lake from the kitchen window.

Staff (owners I’d assume) were nice older folks. Rooms are VERY outdated, and could use some TLC. Tiny room, floor not clean, found pieces of leaves scattered about the floor. There was a girl softball team, staying there as well, a lot of loud talking, screaming, shrieking, giggling carrying on until midnight. Absolutely unacceptable. However, I spoke to one of the owners and he said he would take care of it, and I believe he did because Saturday night was very quiet. The best thing I can say about the room is the bed was fairly comfortable. At least it wasn’t rock hard like so many rooms that I’ve stayed in. Towels and washcloths should be replaced, the ones they had there were extremely old. It was good enough place to spend a couple nights to lay my head. But the price for two nights was absolutely ridiculous, $260! Crazy.

this is a darling little roadside motel and we loved our stay! It was clean, had a full kitchen. You can walk to this FABULOUS Italian restaurant, try the seafood risotto and have a drink at the bar!

It was exact like it was described and captured in photos on Expedia. It’s a nice, clean, comfortable, roadside motel. The owners were super friendly and every have us great suggestions for dinner. We would stay here again.
