Ambergris Caye, Belize District hotel rooms at the Independent

"The property is in the vicinity of lots of restaurants. I highly recommend Garifuna Soul Food Restaurant. I had a King Room Deluxe which had a full kitchen with anything you need to cook, store and reheat your food. Thus room type really allows you to ger comfortable and store your belongings away. The concierge was very helpful with recommending dining options like Sweet Tutz. The food there was very authentic and reasonably priced! 1 of 2 pools on-site was open for most days of my stay. There is NO beach access from this resort. The phones were not working during my stay but the staff came to my room if they needed to relay a message to me which was helpful. I never dined at the property. The staff was kind and accommodating. The resort was very quiet so, I was able to rest well. I visited in May as a solo guest."

"Beautiful Hotel. NO BEACH or Swimming on East side of Caye. Anywhere. Sargassum. Spent a lot of time cruising to west side, but you stop a bunch and see the town, hit all the spots. Hotel was fantastic, not sure how you do it different. "

"The property itself was beautiful but unfortunately at this time of year (early May) there was a lot of sargassum so we did not enjoy the resort's beach. The pool was a nice sub. The food at the local restaurants in San Pedro were better than the resort's restaurant but it was convienent and decent. Important to note that at the resort bar and restaurant they do not sell any hard liquor, only beer and wine. In comparison to another 4 star Belizian resort we had just stayed at, we did feel it was not as luxurious but overall clean, beautiful views, and fun diving experiences available. "
