I heard from an employee at another hostel that this place is permanently closed? Wow. Well I will give a good review but will qualify it to say that the staff came off immature and annoying even if they were likeable. Housekeeping was great, very thorough.

Although our room was full, the people who shared the room were polite and didn't infringe on other people's abilities to sleep, read or enjoy their stay. There was a kitchen, tv room, and laundry facilities available. The property is on a bus route so that those without vehicles could easily explore the city. The staff was helpful. These things made my stay an enjoyable one.

Very few parking available

It is okay. The wifi speed is slow but they have very few parking. Although they claim they have free parking, be prepared not to get a spot and have to park on the street which is not free during daytime: 8am-6pm

Great place to stay

Really cool place to stay. Much better than any hotel I've ever stayed at. Meet people from around the country and the world and actually communicate. Put down your computers and cell phones and experience life through a hostel.

Fantastic!

Probably the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on in a hostel and I have traveled around the world staying in hostels. The staff was super friendly and accommodating and I would absolutely recommend staying here if you are in this beautiful city!

Rooms are hot. They need an AC. Staff is trashy. Place smells. the guy who cleans up the rooms obviously doesn’t get paid enough and lacks hospitality skills. I have stayed in bad hotels, however this one tops it off.

Old, Dirty and Worn. Great staff and Location.

It's a dirty and worn American hostel. The only saving grace is the great staff and location exactly in front of U of T Austin. For an adult it's not worth $40 a night; better to book a hotel room for double the price. For students and kids in their 20s it's doable.

The best parts of Dorm living

This is dorm living but the staff are great and very helpful with local suggestions. It's very clean and convenient to bus lines to the city and right on the UT campus. It was great to meet and talk with the other guests.

First time staying in a Hostel. Robbie checked me in and was very helpful the whole stay. t The other guys working different shifts were great as well. Very courteous & helpful. If you're looking for a cool place to stay on the cheap, this is WAY better than a roach motel as long as you don't mind sharing a room. I had plenty of room in my locker for all my things. Bring $15 cash for key and lock deposits. I would recommend asking for a bottom bunk if you go pee 3 times a night like I do :-) I asked to move to a bottom after the 2nd night and they were happy to accommodate. The communal living room, kitchen, and outdoor areas are cool as well. Walking distance to a couple food truck areas, several bars, and of course Longhorn Stadium.

The location of this is ideal for football games visiting your kids in the dorm and generally being in the university area of Austin. It felt very safe and very clean but basic amenities. Slept great, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom is clean and I would stay again.

First time in a hostel and it was fantastic! Good times on the pool table drinking beer and meeting new people. It is a little loud at night so if you are trying to get a lot of rest i would suggest ear plugs, or to stay somewhere else. It was clean most of the staff were super friendly. The lockers had enough room for my clothes and tools. Will definetly stay in my next business trip!

I'll be back, Jack's!

This is a clean place in a nice area and run by a friendly crew. There are laundry machines, coffee, an entertainment room, and the weekly barbecue social on Saturday nights. For someone who often shuns social interactions, this stay has been a comfortable experience. I won't bother with hotels whenever I'm back in Austin. Drifter Jack's is it!
