Belfast, Northern Ireland hotel rooms at the Fairmont

"The staff (front desk, restaurant, bar) were all excellent. Friendly, professional, willing to go the extra step. The food I had (two breakfasts, two lunches) was very good; fresh and well presented. What was far less appealing was the property itself. It's an historic building but for some reason management has decided to run with a "hip/moody/verging on bordello" vibe. Beginning with the elevator, on thru the halls and into the room I occupied, the lighting was almost nonexistent. This was particularly annoying in my room. While the entire place may be antiseptically clean, this low lighting and dark colors and some needs-replacing drapery and upholstery, makes it feel like it needs cleaning. "

"The property is fine, close to the university on a residential street - safe area to walk around. Breakfast was good - restaurant was closed on Monday night so there was limited choice in the bar. I was in the annex. There were no restrictors on the window so I wouldn't leave it open at night. The room was chilly and the bathroom was quite dilapidated. The kitchenette was handy (cooker, fridge) and there was a little table to eat or work at. The bed was comfortable and there was lots of hot water. It was fine but not 4*"
