We really enjoyed our stay at the Zarenhof. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the staff were super helpful and friendly. The location is awesome with shops, bars and restaurants close by and trams 1, 10 and 12 and U Bahn line 2 right outside. The apartments may be a little old and tired but that didn't detract from a super stay.
Beautiful property in a very convenient location. All the people working there that I met were very helpful and friendly. I definitely would stay there again if/when I go back to visit Berlin.
Good location, near to coffee shops and bars. Well situated for transport into town. Very helpful staff. Nice and quiet as it was set back from the road. We appreciated the balcony. Accommodation was clean and suited our needs.

Very good sized room and good transport links in and around the city. Clean and basic facilities provided. Would recommend if you want something affordable for a short city break.
I had a long stay (23 nights) and was very pleased. The neighborhood is wonderful, and the hotel is way in the back, off a very busy street. Very quiet and pleasant. Kind of like living in Berlin for awhile but with the beds made every day!
Irritating loud tap/buzzing sound from safe first night. Told staff in morning, they said they would fix it. Arrived back after a full day out and not resolved.
Couldn’t leave window open at night as broken.
Took long time for hot water.
Only one pillow.
Not all bad, as location ok.
Perfectly located a few meters from the U-Bahn. Staff very friendly, a lot of restaurants around and a super cool vibe of the neighborhood. How it could be wrong??
I stayed here once before a few years ago and decided to come again for another visit to Berlin. This time we got a room in another building than the main one which was a bit more run down and rough around the edges. The room itself was very spacious, clean and silent though, and we slept well.
The surrounding area is great with lots of restaurants an within walking distance to lots of things to see and do. The public transportation options are also great! I would perhaps come again, but only for a room in the main building of the hotel. If you want basic accommodation that's safe and silent in an area of town that can be a bit noisy this is great for you, but if you have higher standards I would recommend something else.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
I liked the location as it is near public transportation and many restaurants. It is set back far enough from the street that it is quiet. The rooms are spacious about 350 to 400 square feet. The breakfast buffet is impressive with a big selection. The property is rundown and in need of a facelift. Overall it is good value compared to the other hotels most of which were higher priced.
The breakfast daily was so diverse and very fulfilling. There were so many options including light fare and some more heavier fulfilling items. I had a little bit of everything and it filled me for the day until dinner time. The deco of the hotel is like something from a past century. The courtyard is so quaint. It felt like I was staying in a neighborhood local place instead of a hotel. I loved the area surrounding the hotel. Such a great neighborhood! The staff mostly only spoke in German, but they were kind and patient with my English only skills. I will stay again here if I could.
The hotel itself is accessed from the street after passing through a dark and trashy archway that opens into what can best be described as a low-income housing, with visible trash cans, a myriad number of bikes and leaves cluttering the property. The hotel is attached to this structure by passing through the archway, and the scary looking backside of the apartment building. This opens onto a red-carpeted walkway with gaudy gold statues. On the plus side, the hotel is very comfortable, with a nice breakfast buffet. The Prenzlaur Berg area is very funky, lots of good, reasonable restaurants and little 'boutiques'. Outside of the street the hotel is on, the vibe is more Lower East Side New York or Hell's Kitchen. The street where the hotel is located is pretty safe because there is a lot of foot traffic - it just is not the type of plus that appeals to elderly people. In my 20s and 30s I would have loved it.
First impressions when we arrived: very nondescript entrance, graffiti on the outside wall. The area was a little run down. Reception was a very small area. Once we got to the rooms, however, they were fine - clean, comfortable and quite spacious. As you had to go through one courtyard to a second one, it was very quiet even though the area was busy. The area itself is quite bustling - plenty of places to eat nearby, and a U-Bahn station 100 yards away. In a nutshell: I highly recommend as it’s not expensive and is comfortable, clean and quiet - and also it’s so easy to get around the city from here.
I would stay here again. Very close to transport. It felt like a safe area - quite busy.
Room was spacious and cleaned well every day. I think it could have been hoovered more Photos of room prior to booking were accurate.
