“낯선 도시에서의 첫날입니다. 오래 전에 이메일로 부탁했던 공항 셔틀 서비스를 다시 컨펌하지 못했는데도 약속대로 지켜주었네요. 약속 시간보다 조금 늦게 도착하긴 했지만 점잖은 호텔 직원분이 제 이름이 프린트된 종이를 들고 나타나셔서 정말 반갑고 안심이 되었어요. 호텔 유니폼에 명찰을 달고 계셨고 호텔 로고가 찍힌 봉고차여서 걱정없이 탔습니다. 오는 길에 운없게도 타이어가 펑크나서 아저씨가 땀 뻘뻘 흘리며 도로 한 복판에서 타이어를 바꿔 끼셨어요. 그래도 끝까지 양해를 구하고 과정을 설명하시며 일 처리를 하셨어요. 그래서 저희도 침착하게 기다릴 수 있었습니다. 호텔은 넓고 깨끗하고 좋아요. 예전엔 가족 단위로 두 방을 터서 손님을 받았던 흔적이 보입니다. 지금은 가족이 이곳으로 여행을 오는 상황은 아니죠. 주변은 그래도 돌아다니기에 안전하다고는 하지만, 어떤 곳은 상점들이 다 빠져나가 휑하니 비어 있고 어떤 곳은 쇼핑거리나 식당거리 같은 느낌도 있고, 블록마다 느낌이 아주 많이...
