Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you've prepared well. We've compiled a list of handy tips that will help get your Williamsburg vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a comfortable experience if you pack the right gear. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a good book. Next, leave space in your hand luggage for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and maybe a proper neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp objects, like your treasured pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, chemicals agents and poisons, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to be as comfortable as you can. Dress in loose, breathable clothing and remember to pack a pullover just in case you get cold. Pick a pair of roomy, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the journey. Leave the high heels and chunky boots in your luggage.
- The result of sustained periods of immobility, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a condition that can affect passengers during long-haul flights. But the good news is there are ways to lower your risk of developing it. Drink plenty of water, get up and wander the aisles as often as you can and wear compression socks to help improve your circulation.
