Wonderful place to take time. The property is beautiful, with several common areas to sit and enjoy the views of the waters. The food is excellent as well. I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

A last-minute recommendation took us to Clifden where we found the Ardagh Hotel. What a fantastic hotel! The accommodations were comfortable, clean and well kept. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Our only regret was not staying longer; hopefully we will make it back again. If you are thinking about it, you won't regret staying at the Ardagh Hotel.

Being able to return from a day on the windswept rainy coast to a warm fire and a glass of wine and being able to sit in the early morning in the cactus filled sun lounge looking out at the water made this a magical and welcoming place to stay.

We only stayed one evening, but thoroughly enjoyed it. We were greeted by a lovely woman at the front desk who offered us cakes upon our arrival. She also referred us to a nice place for dinner and music in town that evening.

The Ardagh is a lovely family-run hotel just outside the main streets of Clifden. We were welcomed warmly by the desk staff, and given cake and milk upon arrival (yum!). Beyond our comfortable room, there were several other shared spaces to hang out, including an upstairs alcove with lush plants and a gorgeous view of the water. Breakfast was great as well. It is a great alternative to staying right in town - we were happy for the quiet!

It has a spectacular view of the water. Wonderful indoor spaces for relaxing, enjoying a fire, and socializing. It is family owned and run, creating a sense of ease and familiarity. Very close to beautiful beaches, and Clifden. As well as Connemara mountains.

Both good and bad

The hotel itself was beautiful and the food was nice in the restaurant. But when the staff had done some mix ups they couldn’t even say sorry and try and make it up which was very odd and unfortunately made our experience less enjoyable. They did not have conditioner in the rooms for the hair which was very weird for trying to be a more high end hotel.

This is one of the loveliest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Beautiful property, big enough that it doesn’t feel awkward to run into people, small enough that it feels personal, very kind and attentive staff, high-quality breakfast with many choices (tiny complaint: coffee is a bit weak and it would be nice to have espresso options—I ended up getting a second coffee in town each day after breakfast), comfortable bed, nice shower, amazing solarium and “extra” spaces outside room, quiet, nice mix of guests. Some families with kids but generally a pretty quiet and slightly older clientele. Sooo clean and well-maintained!! I would stay here again in a heartbeat and will suggest it to anyone I know coming to Ireland. Thank you for making our stay so special.
