  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Overall, our one night stay was good. The mini fridges in both rooms were frozen over when we got there, but they were still working. In one room, the microwave plate was either taken out or stolen. Other than that, our check-in and check out went smooth.

Service was fine. Bed was comfortable. Temperature was good. Room was shabby. I avoided the bathtub and one of the washcloths was a stained rag. The price was what I could afford.

The staff is very hepful and they do not have pests. I have definitely revisted again for my family. It's near a lot of stores & restaurants.

The person at the front desk was nice and helpful. I was given a key and there were people in my room. I was given another room that was acceptable. 3 other people in front of me about to get rooms that were reserved were turned away because they were double booked. I was just happy that I was able to get a room - even though I booked one.

Staff was kind and helpful. The rooms were dirty, bed had stained linens and actually dirt and grime on the sheets. Walls were dirty. No water pressure and ceiling was coming down. We didnt stay.

Basic with less service

Asked for an early check in, was told $50 fee to do so. Then was told it is a corporate policy, followed up with corporate, it is not, it is up to the individual property. Then was told we could check in an hour early for no fee, when arrived , would not let us . Stayed three nights, never emptied our trash can at all. Did not clean up or replace wash cloths or towels . Had trouble with the card reader on the door. Property is poorly maintained. It is in a nice area, quiet, felt safe.

The place was in need of updating. I chose it for price, and you get what you pay for. The beds were comfortable. We expected some sort of breakfast but there was only one pot of coffee. Yes, I would stay there again, but don't expect too much.
