  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The motel 8 in Columbus was much better than the 1 stars it was getting on the reviews. Great valve. It gives you want you need in a motel room. Comfortable bed, pleasant service, clean with no roaches or bed bugs, and a nice shower. Yes its very dated, but for $72 you can't beat it.

Exactly what I needed

Extremely friendly staff. Continental breakfast was coffee, juice, two types of cereal, chocolate chip and blueberry muffins and frozen waffles. Room was clean and comfortable. Location was very central to the impressive amount of breweries columbus has to offer. Would book again

This hotel is close to the highway so continuing on out trip was quick and easy. It is not a good neighboorhood, but it did feel safe because it's on the side of the highway away from the people doing questionable activity. It was surprisingly quiet given the proximty to the highway. Breakfast was disappointing and they need to do a better job controlling the gnats which ended up in the milk. It's a good hotel for quick overnight stay but wouldn't recommend for an extended visit.

Good for the price

It was conveniently located next to main roads. 20 minutes from the airport. Shower had very hot water which was nice. The free breakfast wasn’t much to offer.
