One of the most eye-catching modern buildings in Israel is also one of its most intriguing museums, packed with exhibitions dedicated to contemporary design.
Take time out of your trip to Tel Aviv to visit Design Museum Holon, in the neighboring city of Holon. Part architectural icon, part cutting-edge museum, this attraction is one of the most unusual and impressive sights in the region. Come to stand in awe of its twisty, Möbius strip design and stay to explore its regularly changing exhibitions.
The striking building is the creation of Israeli designer Ron Arad. It was built in 2010 as a commission by Holon’s mayor to improve the city’s cultural standing. Be inspired by the final result, which is both a sculpture and a building, created to be a work of art with a very practical application.
Take photos of the exterior, a mass of twisted, bronze-colored steel ribbons that bend into a curve that encompasses the exhibition space. Inside, you can see how these ribbons interact with one another in a continuous loop.
Enjoy the two gallery spaces contained within the building. The Upper Gallery brings you close to the unusual design of the building, while the Lower Gallery sits at the bottom of a marvelous white spiral staircase.
The museum hosts a selection of varied temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Explore themes of contemporary design in fashion, architecture and industry, from Israel as well as international cultures. Previous exhibitions have included titles such as Sound and Matter in Design and A Metaphor of Light.

Visit the Design Museum Holon between Monday and Saturday. Check its website in advance to see what exhibitions are on when you go. Admission is less expensive for youth, children and Holon residents. Hop on a bus from southern Tel Aviv to get to the museum in about 20 minutes. Parking is available if you want to drive here.
