Four Mounds was delightful! It is a beautiful house decorated with vintage furniture, comfortable beds, beautifully tiled bathrooms, plush robes, and hosts Dee and Willow who gave us a history lesson about the property and its prior owners, and made the most wondrous breakfasts each day before we began exploring Dubuque.

We loved our stay at Four Mounds. The house was fantastic, like stepping back in time. The entire house is decorated in arts and crafts style furnishings. The beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. We especially enjoyed sitting outside, listening to birds, watching eagles, and looking at the river.

What a beautiful place to stay, nestled along the river. You would never know that you were so close to a city. We were only there one night and had to leave early the next day, so we didn’t interact with anyone or have breakfast. If you like older homes with creaky floors, this place is for you. So much character! There are (2) homes to book. We stayed in the Grey House. One thing to note is the narrow drive to/from the property. It is wide enough for one car with a few places for the exiting car to pull over to make room. Definitely a tight squeeze!

Four Mounds is a lovely B&B in a quiet and scenic location. The home is expertly maintained. Staff is available on an as needed basis but otherwise you are left to enjoy this beautiful place on your own.

Our room was perfect. The bed was very comfy. The bathroom was fine, shower curtain wouldn’t stop blowing in and sticking to me, but it was fine. The breakfast was fantastic and Dee was delightful. We would absolutely stay again.

Clean throughout, our bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good. Only con was we are early risers and breakfast is at 9. Way to late in the morning for us.

Gem of a find.

What an amazing find! Beautiful property, well maintained and wonderful breakfast. The history of Four Mounds is worth looking into if you are planning a stay there - although you will have plenty of opportunity to find out the history. What was originally built as a gentleman’s farm during the Industrial Revolution has become a well preserved ecosystem with well maintained buildings. Four Mounds was donated to Dubuque by one of the last surviving original owners and has become a foundation that is well known to Dubuque residents. Even if you don’t care about the history - it’s a beautiful and peaceful place to stay with an amazing breakfast. Despite the seclusion, you are close to everything Dubuque has to offer.

Four Mounds is an historically significant residence that was built in the very early 1900s. It is in a relatively remote and very beautiful rural forest setting with a broad view of the Mississippi river north of Dubuque. The breakfast I had was perfect and cooked for me and served at the dining room table. I came for just one night, but I very much want to return with my family. I strongly recommend Four Mounds.
