"Quite a notable stay! I originally booked a corner room at The Sofia as a “just in case” option, but did not see that the stay was nonrefundable. I tried all kinds of ways to appeal and get out of it, but they wouldn’t even let me sell the stay to someone else. This really isn’t the reason for my rating, but it did set the tone. The hotel staff were not very friendly in general, and sort of just did the minimum.
I get the strong impression that someone bought an aging hotel and was struggling to get it up to speed. Most of the hotel is decorated in a dark gothic style, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entire 7th floor was remodeled in modern light colors, and our room was mostly shades of white (which did not match its pictures on the website, which still displayed the old dark style). The outer walls still have the old windows, but the room had nice quartz countertops and modern bathroom hardware. Annoyingly, the shower head did not swivel much, and not enough to get into a convenient position - it shot too high, mostly at our heads. The room was otherwise nice and quiet and pretty comfortable. There was a hydration station on our floor, which was nice.
On the afternoon of the second day of our stay we ran out of hot water. I didn’t think to contact the front desk until later in the evening, and they said they were having problems all over the hotel, but would be fixed in “a few hours”. We both ended up taking cold showers as it wasn’t fixed until the next m"
