Friendly and calm

We stayed 1night on an off-season November weekend. Staff and owner made us feel welcome , ensured we had what we needed. lovely view and beautiful place for country drive. This was our second visit, the previous being 16 years ago. The place has been retained but retained it's historic and rural feel and reasonable prices.

Disgraceful excuse for a hotel. STAY AWAY.

Everything negative thing you have read here is true. The General Wolfe sucks. The owner, Mostafa, is a crook and liar. The room was unclean, inconvenient and tawdry The air conditioning was outrageously cold - we propped the windows open to make it livable. We asked about bike storage, having read on the website it was available; reception knew nothing about it. Locals told us "everyone knows" how bad the Wolfe is; wish we had known too. Wolfe Island is so beautiful - very sorry it has this blight on it. No doubt the owner will provide some response to this review; he cannot be believed. Choose a B and B or sleep in your car; anything will be better than the dreadful General Wolfe. Believe it.

Comfortable and friendly staff. We had a problem with accessing channels on the TV but an employee came to our room immediately and resolved the problem. We would definitely stay there again.

Great location

Great location, short walk to ferry, bicycle rental facilities and the only restaurants on island. Location makes up for shortcomings of hotel room.

Used to come here as a kid via boat. Not much has changed including decor This is a very quant hotel. What you would expect from a small town on an island. We were a bit worried as we seemed to be the only ones there on a summer weekend but it was comfortable if you are looking for something different from city hotels. Not sure why the place seems to be little used.

We love this place!!

General Wolfe is a really nice motel with a 5 star dining room. If you want a great meal, this is the place to eat! We didn't spend time in the bar area so I can't say how the food is there, but the dining room..... fantastic!! The motel room was clean and fresh but could use some small maintenance/touch-ups. Staff were very accommodating with our late check in and even went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. I think we're going to make this a regular Anniversary celebration stop each year!!!!

It's an older hotel on a quaint island.

It's not a tourist island, but if you really want to relax with friendly people Wolfe Island is your destination and the General Wolfe Hotel is the place to stay. Clean, comfortable and right near the Kingston Ferry and other town businesses. Everything you need is right there.

The hotel has huge potential. It seems a bit tired and neglected right now but it's unique. Would love to see the hotel and restaurant running at full potential, would make for an awesome experience. First order of business would be to clean the carpets. The most important parts of the room seemed clean but needed attention to detail. The musty smell in the hall entry made for a questionable first impression. Small improvements could make a big difference.

old, dilapidated, dirty carpeting ..outdated

I believe the advertisement for the hotel led one to believe there was a jacuzzi...it was a jacuzzi tub not jacuzzi

Clean and Friendly

Hotel is old however the rooms are updated, clean and comfortable. Staff is helpful and friendly. Close to ferry, an excellent bar/restaurant across the street.

Nice hotel, view of the lake & Kingston skyline.

20 minute ferry ride from Kingston. Hotel is about 3km from the ferry landing.

General Wolfe should retire

Arriving on a chilly October day, found An unheated room. No thermostat visible because it was in the hallway. Paper thin walls, desultory service, will not return!

Well kept secret.

I was looking for somewhere to spend a couple of days away from the bustle of everyday life and The General Wolfe Hotel provided that.The restaurant has good food and is well priced with friendly staff. I enjoyed my time at this hotel and would certainly go back there.

Quaint and Cozy

The only reason that I gave a 4 out of 5 for condition is because it is an older facility but I loved it! It was so charming and comforting! I have never had an owner lead the way to a room and let you in with a smile and an "enjoy your stay". Worth every cent!

Horribly run hotel: Does not represent the island!

I should have done my research before booking this hotel because the negative reviews really rang true and reflected in our experience. Book a B&B on the island instead - there are many!! The hotel owners have zero customer service skills and are absolutely rude and unaccommodating. My issue with the hotel was that there was no individual temperature control in the room and due to a pregnant wife this was important to us. We arrived and the room was freezing from A/C and so we asked for the heat to be turned on. It was turned on but nothing was kicking in - besides even when it did we would have no control (it's a universal control for 10 rooms). We decided to ask for a refund and the on-site owner operator refused to come out of her apartment and just had the front office employee stonewall us with "the answer is no - 100% non-refundable". They did not care that the request was being made based on the condition of the room. Finally the owner agreed to speak to me on the phone - I offered to pay a $40 cancellation fee...she cited the booking policy and hung up on me. It was extremely frustrating. Hotels.com came through and tried to do everything they could and contacted the owner. Unfortunately to no avail but hotels.com did give me a generous credit toward a future stay - I am glad I booked through them. Other points about this hotel (but it was expected): The rooms are quite old and tired. TV is extremely old - no channels.

We don't carry white sugar!!!

Well put it this way, at least I was in great company and we laughed about it!! First we got there late because of the ferry. Our room was on the second floor, stairs only, no elevators. Central air and not individual AC in room. For the shower, the water was either too hot or too cold, nothing in the middle!!! The TV is from the 80's I'm not joking!!!No coffee maker in room and no breakfast included therefore 8 cups of coffee was $12.00 and no white sugar! brown sugar and fake sugar only!!! The dining room closes at 9:00 pm and there is no music!! we never ate at the hotel so I cannot tell you about the food. I was there 24 years ago and it was great then...great food, great music...I probably won't be back there!!!

Owner did not have confirmation...made an issue out of it.Tried to score more money! Owner not a nice person,wife worse. Kicker is they made an issue out of it...and the place was empty! Great bars down street (100m) One modern, the other 'down home ish'

The stairs outside falling apart and dangerous.Hotel smelled musty.Restaurant was closed. The tv channels werehard to find and limited. No ice machine that we could find. It had nice view out window, only redeeming quality-room had no control for a/c and was freezing while outside of room hot and smelly.

Lovely community, not too many choices for dinner but pretty much what we expected. We were passing through on a motorcycle road trip and had a restful night.

Too pricy

The hotel seemed empty. You had to go to the cafe to get your key. No place to put our bikes safely (Wolfe island is a great spot to bike and you are guaranteed to have a spot on the ferry). No coffeemakers in the room. It is too expensive for what you get.
