This hotel is in a great location and, has a good restaurant which offers a buffet breakfast with a great variety of things. The rooms are neat and tidy and the views from some of them are spectacular. I Would recommend for smaller groups, families and or solo travellers.

This hotel is located at the top of a hill, so not for people with bad legs. It is located in a quiet and peaceful area, so perfect for people who want peace and quiet. The restaurant by the pool makes nice burgers, sandwiches, etc. The pool is large enough to swim a few laps. We enjoyed our 10 day stay, 3-4 of which were spent on the hotel grounds, the rest of the days, we spent on trips around the island.

The staff was very helpful and kind. The area was more "touristy" than expected. The hotel itself was outdated aside from the restaurants and lobby area. The room did not have ac so it was hot and musty. The bathroom was extremely outdated and did not seem very clean

Tired rooms

The hotel is a good cheap option with some pros and cons. Pros - the outdoor pool area is nice and if interested in entertainment they have varying acts throughout the week. The breakfast is also really good with a wide variety of food on offer on the buffet. Cons - a couple of times I spoke to the reception staff they were not very warm, barely looked at me or greeted me. Not all of them but a couple of them I felt like I was bothering them. The room I stayed in was tired with terrible sound proofing, people in the corridor sounded like they were in my room. I also had a towel in my room that was covered in fluff which when I picked it up and gave it a shake, so much fell off onto the floor mat it was very weird and I couldn’t believe a housekeeper put that towel in my bathroom for me to use.

Horrible hotel. Unfortunately we had to stay here because our flights got canceled. Everything was absolutely disgusting the hotel rooms had bugs we had to switch rooms and the washrooms were gross. The breakfast was another matter everything was cold and oily there were bugs running across the serving tables. The bread offered was as hard as rock and even the coffee was bad. No point in paying extra for breakfast when this is how it is. Especially with bugs on the serving counters of the buffet. Please stay away this place is a health hazard.

The public areas are modern and well maintained. Swimming pool area and terrace were lovely. Breakfast buffet was well stocked and co sat toy being refreshed. Staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the bedrooms and the corridors let the hotel down and need refurbishment and modernisation asap.

ATTENTION! Woke up one morning to use the washroom and there was an extremely massive coackroach i dont understand how it even got in if we are in the top floor. On the maps it says estrelicia is the bottom hotel and its not its the top one. You need to walk up a hill almost 100 meters to reach your hotel. The photos is shows when you book your staying are not the same photos because mine looked nothing like the photo's i wish i could post the photos. There is a lot of people that only stayed one night and asked for the money back and found another hotel. We had to clean the washroom when we arrived because it wasnt cleaned properly. The breakfast buffet is nothing special. I will not come back.

We were not told of the steepness of the path leading to the hotel, which was difficult for my wife to negotiate. We were half board but we're not told drinks were not included with our evening meal, not even water. We also were not told whether we could bring our own drinks in, even if it was just water. The staff were not very helpful if you did not want to buy drinks and if I'd known that you could not have brought your own water to dinner I would not have booked this hotel. There was not an all inclusive option available when I booked this hotel so we should have been told that soft drinks would/would not be allowed at dinner Instead of being watched suspiciously by staff whilst eating our meal. I don't want lots of additional costs to my bill at the end of my stay and don't see why I should pay exorbitant prices for drinks when absolutely no alternative, not even water, is offered. As I said, the hotel should say brought in soft drinks are allowed at dinner or offer at least one free beverage per night, especially when a all inclusive option is not available at the hotel.

Overall the property was pretty poor. The staff were nice enough however facilities were much lacking. The room was spacey but one of the rooms had no fan or air conditioning and so was too hot to sleep in. The location was not very accessible located at the top of a large hill and so getting luggage up was difficult. The hotel was noisy and one of the rooms was located with the window facing inwards towards a wall.

Staff at the hotel were always helpful and friendly. Check in was available when we arrived late at the night, and also no problem with late check-out. They helped to get doctors to the hotel because of a medical emergency. In the end it required treatment at the hospital. But it was good to have staff members that made things easier. The location of the hotel is great. And it is close to several restaurant, cafés, Complexo Balnear do Lido, centrum of Funchal and more. The pool area of the hotel were quite nice. But I have to be honest and say that in general. The hotel was pretty outdated and it definitely needs some maintenance. And it was a strange smell in the room. Maybe fungus or mold. No AC, and the safe didn't have a lock. And there was no fridge. Perhaps there are some in other rooms 🤔 But I got the impression that other rooms were better. And we got the opportunity to change room so thumbs up for that. The food was okey, and you had a few things to choose from. Overall an okey hotel with a good potential to be even better. Staff were great as mentioned. But hotel needs and upgrade and some maintenance. The hotel is fairly cheap to stay at, so if you want to travel on a budget. Or just dont want to spend a lot on a hotel, this will be a good option.

Not a very good start when we arrived at the hotel. Queued up with other arriving guests with bags and luggage in tow. Got to the check in desk and the receptionist asked if we flew EasyJet which we had, gave us a key and a card with check out information for the next day. Said they hadn’t been paid and need to send boarding passes to their email address. Tried to explain we were booked for over a week but she was very abrupt and uncooperative and we went to this room which was terrible and definitely not the room we had booked. Met the general manager by coincidence and explained the situation but he was as confused as us. Went out for the afternoon and came back and spoke to the reception manager who explained she had mistaken us for people who work at the airport - clearly. Didn’t check names on ID to the booking system but we were given the room we had booked that evening. Reception manager was furthermore very helpful. That aside, car parking was a challenge on the first day. We asked about the car park but receptionist wasn’t helpful and as a result we failed to prebook and had to park the car a 10 minute walk away. Breakfast always busy, never had bacon and sausage at the same time and sausages are mini hot dogs. Bread rolls stale after a few mornings. Good choice of fruit, yoghurt, cereal and pastries. Breakfast staff friendly. We enjoyed drinks by the pool bar some evenings. Rooms are in need of maintenance and could do with updating.

Very unhelpful and unpleasant front desk staff throughout our stay. Room was poorly equipped, safe was broken, sliding balcony doors did not close properly, no fridge or basic room amenities. Overall very disappointing stay. Only positives were the cleaning staff and the breakfast buffet staff (both of which could provide some training to the front desk and evening restaurant staff on customer service).
