The whole place oozes character befitting its five hundred plus years of heritage. The staff are lovely and very knowledgeable about the building and the area. The food is excellent and the bar area is properly traditional, down to the fireplace.
We stayed at The Green Man after a half day canoeing on the Wye at Symonds Yat. Great location. Check in was really easy and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room was great , bed was comfy and had an iron, tea/coffee making facilities with a good range of tea/hot chocolate.
Parking is aplenty and we had dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent - all four of us cleaned our plates and were really happy with what we ordered.
We didn’t have breakfast but can imagine it would be good based on what the dinner was like.
Would recommend staying here as it also is full of charm with little nods to its heritage.
We had a two night stay which was excellent. The breakfast was great, the room was clean and tidy and the restaurant food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend it.

The parking is good. Staff very helpful. The food is decent. Our room was of a good size and the stand alone shower was great. The bath not so. The bath taps were complicated to use and if you are not careful you could flood the bathroom by turning on the shower instead the bath tap. The mixer element of the bath tap was broken so when I tried to use it I cut my finger. The room had an ultra bright security light, outside, on all night over our window and as it was a very hot night the window was open with the blackout blind up so the room was fully lite up all night. Very little sleep was had
Second visit stayed 2 nights this time and found very comfortable very good service especially Angela in the morning with breakfast friendly and efficient
Lovely welcome, lovely building, food quality was lovely service a little slow but was super busy . Breakfast was great lady serving rushed of her feet but great service
The food was excellent and the room was lovely, we only stayed one night but would definitely stay there again.

We had a large family gathering at the hotel on a Sunday including dinner and an overnight stay, we had dinner in the bar which had a nice atmosphere, The menu was limited with very little vegetarian and vegan options, my wife chose the vegetarian option which was a cauliflower steak which was very small and overpriced, I had the pork tenderloin Sunday roast which was very poor, the meat had string tied around it, the vegetables were very watery and the stuffing ball was rock hard, very disappointing, the service was ok, very polite and there was an apology for the string on the pork.
Our room was main road facing but there was no road noise, the room was old worldly with beams, but there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, the biggest problem was the constant loud ticking noise coming from the corner of the room next to the bed, this kept me awake for most of the night, didn’t get much sleep at all.
The breakfast was acceptable, not great, bacon very hard, baked beans were cold, there was a good selection of pastries though, the breakfast waitress was very friendly and helpful, overall a very disappointing stay, won’t be returning, wouldn’t recommend.
Check in was professional and informative. Room amenities very good and exceptionally clean. Restaurant staff very attenuative and a very good menu selection. Breakfast was a blast. Superb service, tasty food and fantastic staff member. very funny and really made a great start to my morning. Having paid for all of the amenities offered within the room rate the one reason why I specifically return to a hotel is the people, they are the difference that makes the difference. how they engage with you and how they treat you is not paid for, it is how they are as a person. Thank you Amanda, my day got off to a great start because of you.

Excellent staff. We were delayed by bad weather and arrived late, just as the chef told reception that he’d finished service. He immediately asked what we’d like to eat and prepared us a great dinner.
The general manager and breakfast waitress were also very helpful and friendly.
Friendly helpful staff, all individual rooms, mine had a large comfortable bed, with large en-suite with good walk in shower and heated towel rail, all very clean too. All good but let down when the chef was awol for breakfast?
