The original palace was destroy by a fire in 1566 and rebuilt just in 1990. Today is an archeological museum and, inside, you can see the remain of the original wooden structure. The newer decoration is a triumph of gold, made even more bright by the light that come trough the big windows. #architecture

An unknown soldier's grave. This place is known by locals as the war cemetery or the Allied cemetery. It is an incredibly well maintained cemetery honoring the soldiers who lost their lives in WWI and WWII. We were overwhelmed by the number of graves and the 27,000 other soldiers who were honored but unable to be buried. If you are in Yangon you should definitely make the trip to the cemetery. To get here we took the circle train out of Yangon Central Railway station to the stop Kyaikkale (one after the Golf Course stop). From that station we walked to the road and hailed a taxi. It took 4 or 5 to find someone who could speak enough English to take us there. We paid 8000 Kyat
