With new COVID-19 safety guidelines in effect, travel looks a lot different right now. Here are a few things to know before you fly off to Hoopers Island:

• Understand the rules and restrictions in both your origin and destination. It may not be possible to travel depending on local circumstances, so check before you lock in your flight.
• Wear a face mask even during airport screening. A TSA employee will require you to lower your mask temporarily for identification purposes.
• Instead of handing a TSA agent your boarding pass, position it directly on the reader yourself. Then, hold it up for inspection.
• You are now permitted to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your hand luggage. This will need to be taken out for X-ray screening.
• Empty your personal items from your pocket, like your wallet, keys and phone, and put them in your carry-on instead of into bins. This will reduce handling during the screening process.
• Separate any food you have for X-ray screening. Food items often set off the alarm. Placing them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA employee to touch and inspect your belongings.
