Sandy Cove Xmas retreat
Fixtures and fittings around the public pool, sauna area and corridors is tired but the room was nice and comfortable. Service in the restaurant was very good and really enjoyed the food
Beautiful view, great pool, spacious room. The reception staff wasn’t as friendly as they could be. Cold breakfast options aren’t great but hot options are good.

Family trip
The staff are all fantastic, so friendly, the pool and spa areas were really good (if perhaps the changing rooms could do with mopping a little more frequently) the bar and restaurant were really good, service brilliant and food was fine. The room itself was tired, naff old pine furniture, broken chair sat on a piece of wood to prop it up. Not like the pictures shown in the gallery. We were disturbed by dogs in the room next door that barked constantly when they were left alone (which when you’re trying to get kids to sleep is not helpful) You can see they’ve spent a lot of money on the pool, wedding venue and front of house, just the rooms let it down. But couldn’t ask for better in terms of the staff who were lovely!!
Staff are very friendly, the food was unreal if a little on the small side portion wise. The view from our room was to die for & I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone

Good - but room for improvement
We had a great time at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and the view is unbeatable. The swimming pool area is also super with great views.
I would say the only thing is the room (family room) which was large (great) but needed a fair amount of love. It was basic, which was totally fine for us but needed a new carpet and lick of paint etc. We had a great stay though.

Nice hotel, shame about the room
This hotel is in a great location with stunning sea views, unfortunately our Family Room, no. 19 had no view at all, apart from a wall and a cupboard door. Plus the shower didn’t work properly, the window frames were very dirty.

Amazing views from room 49 (Deluxe room) BUT..
Amazing view from room 49, i booked this hotel mainly for the view and to enjoy a morning coffee with it. It was me, husband and my 2 year old.
Positives = * Amazing view/location
* Room is spacious and bathroom
* Staff are lovely (we only had breakfast and one dinner so based on that).
*Close to main beaches and attraction
Con= * Expensive (OK its August for 3* over £200 per night was harsh)
* Room was not clean considering we got the deluxe room (dusty, balcony glass was so dirty, cups not fully clean) very disappointing.
* breakfast was the same everyday, very limited. If you like patisseries bring your own lol because they bring out a limited number and once they are finished that's the end. * Other then the deluxe room (even the room is up for debate) and main dinner area you surly know you are in a 3* hotel. Spiders at each corner in the hallway, feels old, has that old home smell. *
*Housekeeping was poor, after first night my bathroom bin was not changed so when we got back from a lovely day the bathroom smelled of my daughters pooped nappy which i addressed at reception. In our 4 days stay i don't think the room was hoovered. Bedding not changed even on the 3rd night where my little one had her face painted at the zoo they changed the duvet the next day (probably couldn't hid it so they had to change it) but left pillow with all the stains (turned around).

Beautiful and pleasant stay
Staff are friendly and helpful. The kids enjoyed the pool and the view from the hotel is amazing.
A brilliant location on the North Devon coast, Sandy Cove has fabulous views and lovely gardens to enjoy them from. We had a family room with a sea view balcony for us, the grandparents, and our 9 yr old grandson. I chose this hotel as the website depicted proper single beds for children so was a little disappointed to find a fold up bed but he said it was comfortable and slept well. The room, even though for a family, was quite compact so the third bed was up against the wardrobe doors. Our bed wasn't very comfortable for us but that's personal preference. The little balcony was fine and so was the bathroom. Our grandson loved the swimming pool, nice and large, no restricted adult only times was a bonus, we enjoyed the sauna but the steam room had an unpleasant odour which we did feed back to the reception staff on leaving. The restaurant and bar area were very comfortable and the food was good. Alltogether a good 2 night stay.
Wonderful views of the sea and great seating areas
Wonderful sea views from the terrace and restaurant but the bedroom was not great or clean. Grout missing from the bathroom floor, around plugs not very clean, outside in the patio area which was probably for dogs was full of leaves, cobwebs and not very clean.
Hotel lovely, staff really friendly and helpful. The food was really nice and if you ate in the evening, the menu was exceptional.
My only issue was the pillows, but I'm really fussy and normally take my own, so not complaining.
Can't wait to go back again!
Rooms require a deep clean and updating. Bathroom full of mould and toilet attached to the floor with 2 out of 4 screws so watch out when on it.
However location is beautiful and hotel has a great sea view.
My totally honest view is that the hotel is a real mix - some elements are excellent: food, scenery, hotel facilities (pool, spa, gardens etc) - other parts a bit average (slightly tired rooms, ‘clunky’ service) but from my experience for the price paid I thought as a package it was very good & as such I’d stay again & recommend to others.
This hotel was a great place to stay. It has an amazing view, comfortable, clean bedrooms and helpful staff. Even on a night with a wedding going on it was quiet and peaceful with good service. The swimming pool was great and we enjoyed the steam room and sauna. It would have been wonderful to be able to swim before breakfast but sadly it didn’t open until 9. The breakfasts had a good range on offer and were delicious. We ate our evening meal here both nights and both really enjoyed all our food. My steak was cooked more than I had asked for but was kindly and quickly replaced with a perfect one! Overall a wonderful stay.

A fabulous location, beautiful views, fantastic terraces to relax on. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful though the restaurant service quite slow. The food was average and limited vegetarian options. The room was fine though a little tired and in need of updating. Good clean leisure facilities. Could be so much more with a little more attention to detail.
Went on a four night break just before school holidays start. Taken aback when we arrived as breath-taking views of nearby cove and towards the Welsh coast from the outdoor dining area and our bedroom. We are both in our 70s and have travelled the world widely; few hotels have better views.
This hotel is amazing , perfect , fab , beautiful , views that take your breath away , food was 1st class indulgence . We spent an anniversary weekend here & it ticked all the boxes , would definitely stay again
Our dinner on the first evening involved a 40 minute wait for the main course and every drink had to be signed for during the meal which was disruptive. As we wished to celebrate our anniversary on the second evening, we asked if we should book a table and were told to ask at reception. Reception then told us to ask in the restaurant the following morning.
The next morning we had a 20 minute wait for the cooked breakfast. I asked not to be served hash browns but was told there weren’t any anyway, which had not been advised to my wife when she ordered her breakfast so asked for a substitute. Cutlery was missing from the table.
We asked if we could reserve a table outside on the terrace for dinner that evening and we were again advised to do this at reception, but were also told that dinner would be starting early at 5.30 pm as they hoped to clear the restaurant by 6.30 pm in time for the England football game! As this was too early to dine and not conducive to a celebratory meal, we decided we would have to eat elsewhere, which meant driving and obviously could not drink to celebrate. On our arrival back at the hotel, it was obvious that the information had been incorrect as some diners were only just starting their first course!
Crockery and glasses in the restaurant were dirty each and every day and we were hard pushed to find a clean glass or cereal bowl, despite telling staff of the issue.
In short, this place is appalling value for money. My advice: don't stay
