Short walk 2 the Herod, and Damascus Gates
By short walk down through the Damascus Gate, via the El-Wadi bazzars/lanes, and up and around the Via Dolorosa, most of the main attractions for Christian trippers like me are easily found. From the COH Sepulchre, over to Herod's Citadel, and to the Southern Walls, and the fascinating Temple Mount itself, with tunnels, walls, archaeological park, ringing not only of 'Jesus Stories, but of Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, Jews of course, and the overwhelming appeal and mystique of the Moslem Platform above. Which is accessible at key times. And for keen walkers, through the Dung Gate, along to the Lion's Gate, and the peace of the Pool of Bethesda, if the Tourist Guides are absent. Then go back through the Lion's gate, and wow, up by the Gethsemane Gardens, to the Mount of Olives, and my favourite friendly Camel, that understands Scots lingo. Look across the Kidron Valley, to the Temple Mount, and some amazing sun-sets, that may bring 'tears to your eyes'. As others before. And then for the fit, back down to Gethsemane, down the 'valley of Kings, Kidron' to the City/Village of David, and the visitors centre there, to the archaeological works around the Gihon and Siloam Spring's. Then slog, all the way back, up through the Dung Gate, and up by the 'covered passageway' that takes you back onto the El Wadi, with various twists and turns, back out through the Damascus Gate where you began. And if the 'Garden Tomb', over by the Bus Station, is still open, cool off your feet. Braw.
