We had a one-nighter planned for Islay and wanted to spend the night in very nice accommodations. Saw the Islay House and booked. The pictures did not do this place justice. A beautiful renovation of a 17th Century (and later) Country House into a small boutique inn. Wonderful room, the dining room and bar were just what we were hoping for in the stay.
The owner was present and a delight. Staff was attentive and gracious; the dinner in the dining room offered a small but well-executed...

Emma was an amazing host. The property was clean, the host was welcoming, and the breakfast was superb with a variety of fresh fruits and muffins to go with your main dish. (Definitely say yes to the porridge!!) Be aware, the property is not near any shops or... anything at all, really. It’s a proper country house surrounded by beautiful nature (and right in front of a bus stop) so if you want to eat out or get groceries you’ll have to plan for it as the closest store is 4-5 miles away. This was a wonderful place to stay. It is a heritage building and so you cannot expect modern amenities. But it had everything you need, a nicely renovated bathroom and the food was AMAZING! The atmosphere was perfect for the surrounding glen and the staff were extremely friendly. The room was small and basic but it lent to the charm. And the food.... Seriously good!
