There is nothing really bad about this property... but it is still about a 2-3 star place to stay. Cheap mattresses, cheap bedding, and an old building. No hot water for showers of course. On the other hand, it has a nice hostel feel.
Very accessible to everything you may need in La Fortuna. Shuttle company works with the hostel to take you to all the main attractions. Trails, the waterfall, hot springs, suspension bridges, etc. very friendly staff and clean rooms. Perfect for what i needed

We were in a standard double room with our son. We were just looking for a cheap place to stay since we weren't planning on spending much time at the hotel/inn and the price here was definitely good. The rooms were clean and housekeeping service was good. The AC worked which was great. We didn't always have hot water but taking a cold shower was actually better since it's so hot outside. The beds/pillow were OK - they weren't that comfortable but can't expect much at that price. The breakfast was nice, served daily from 7-9am. No free hot springs are included with this hotel where some other cheap hotel/hostels do include one free trip to the hot springs. They only provide a free shuttle to the free hot springs once daily around 1pm. Overall, for a family trip or a budget traveler, this place was good!
Convenient location. Room was clean. Front desk staff was helpful with everything you need.

For the price is okay. I would not sincerely recommend it. As long as they have turists - that’s all they care. It serve its purpose for bed and shower. I would not go back

Friendly staffs. Good locations. Good breakfast except the same for three days we stay there.
I liked the vibe of the place, the rooms are spacious, clean with nice view of the Volcan Arenal. The breakfast was amazing, home cooked Costa Rican breakfast. Location was very central to La Fortuna town, and overall great value for money.
A Service!
Staff that remember your name from day 1, a shuttle that takes you around the main attractions, and a location close to the center.
They could improve the lighting fixtures in the rooms, and maybe more hot water.
They provided unlimited shuttle for $20 which really was helpful in getting around the local favs
Cleanliness is an issue as there were the dirty house flies in bathrooms that would fly at night in your face. It was quite yucky.
Also there was some other hotel/ba r close to la choza that would blast extremely lod music every night until 3am. So very very hard for light sleepers
Nice place with all equipment you may need in the kitchen. Friendly staff and close to the city.

You get what you paid for I mean cheap price, for example cheap mattresses with spring in it like 50 years ago. Wasn’t very comfortable. Very nice and helpful staff and nice property. Very good location close to everything.
As a family group of 6 travelling, really enjoyed our stay here. Close to the main street of restaurants and shops. Comfy beds and good sized room, free breakfast included.
Garden area is really good and pretty for sitting and relaxing.
Can book tours at reception and free shuttle to hot springs.
Overall highly recommend.
I liked it so much I went back for a second stay. Showers were warm/hot. AC in private rooms worked well. They keep it super clean. Great communal space to chill. Dog on site is super cute! They're very helpful when it comes to helping book tours. The free breakfast is awesome and the laundry is $3/k and comes back the same day. My *only* grievance is that the internet is rough if you're trying to work. Low mbps for so many people that stay there at one time. Otherwise, highly recommend!
La Choza is great! It’s a an excellent deal for what you get. My two biggest selling points were the free breakfast included and proximity to town. It’s a super close (and safe) walk to town but juuuust outside enough to be quiet. The WiFi could be stronger but there’s AC, warm showers, nice seating areas, and daily housekeeping. Solid buy.
This is a very good budget option. Rooms are simple but comfortable, quite a young crowd, but management is keeping the place quiet at night.

Habían unas personas ebrias, vomitando a altas horas de la noche haciendo mucho ruido al frente de la entrada principal del hostal.. no pudimos dormir muy bien..

The room was a bit dated and needed to be updated a bit. The mattress had a large dip in it due to missing boards in the frame. There were a decent amount of bugs in the room too. The staff was very friendly. Overall, even for the price and being in the rainforest I expected it to be a bit better.

The location was very convenient, close to everything, staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good, but the room was very outdated and needs work, the A.C. unit made a lot of noises and looked very old, also the furniture and toilet were very old and worn, the bed mattress was pretty thin
The lady was very nice. Despite her and I having a language barrier, she was very hospitable. She told me they offer a one-time visit to an off-site thermal hot spring. Compared to the man (whom I assumed was her husband) who spoke English but was not very welcoming. The worse part was one night, one of the receptionist (not sure who) let an unwelcomed (male) visitor into the hotel and told them where I was staying without asking me or letting me know. I found it a BIG security concern. Especially, as a lady.
