Lower Alabama, Alabama hotel rooms at the Independent

"We stayed in a suite!! The room was far from clean with dirt on the flooring. The sofa was ripped and the back pillow coming off, and the sofa bed was disgusting. The light when you entered the room flashed like a strobe light (not good when you have a family member with epilepsy). There was mold growing under the bathroom vanity and sharp broken tiles surrounding the floor. The toilet ran all night. And the kicker of the trip, NO hot water the entire stay. And now I can’t get any type of at least partial refund from Expedia or the hotel. "

"Ocean view was great, breakfast was very worth the stay. Did find blood smeared on the walls near the bathroom and in the bathroom. The lock to the balcony was broke. Our first night, which was Saturday night was very loud. The live music was a terrible punk band that was just screaming and pounding drums. The bar music was not something everyone would want to hear in their room until all hours of the nights. After a long day having fun, would’ve been nice to get some rest and my daughter was not able to fall asleep, as well as I was hearing thump thump to bass for hours. We won’t be staying here again due to this. Overall the hotel was good. Just didn’t give the most family friendly vibe with a 4 year old."

"Honestly, we felt manipulated. We chose to stay here for the waterpark in which we found out after checking in that it is seperate and not apart of the hotel and tickets had to be bought. This was not that clear to us when we paid for the room we had. We would have definitely stayed somewhere elsefor the cost. Could have stayed where we were. Other than that the staff was very friendly and the room was spacious. "

"Very easy parking. AC kept the room very cold the way I like it. Also, breakfast was pretty decent. Not a lot of items to choose from but was decent and hot."

"This was a clean hotel. No musty smells, comfortable beds, clean. Kids enjoyed hot chocolate downstairs in the evening. Only “meh” concern was they seemed to not refill the breakfast area. There tend to be early breakfast eaters because of the tournaments nearby. Didn’t seem to keep up with the bar, so by 8am it was wiped out. Otherwise, we loved the place."

"Buyer beware: this is a converted Best Western Hotel (old made new with paint type place) Our problems began at check in and did not end. There were a series of problems and inappropriate jokes, like my daughter and I were allowed into the room but we were to leave our 5 year old in parking lot for the night. At 4:30 am, a staff member entered our room. We called police. The police, staff member, maintenance person and cleaning troop came to enter the room 4 more times after that. Our keys were blocked from further entering the room. Problems did not end until I called it a day and checked out 1 day prematurely. I had tickets to shows and parks...all were lost. Not to mention, we wasted 6 hours of driving on the road to get there. Terrible, terrible place. Stay away from this hotel."

"Excellent room and breakfast was a good one, eggs, sausage, bread, gravy..."
