Our stay in Mangaia Villas was a dream. We were mostly the only guests - and since there is practically no other tourist accomodation on Mangaia, that means to be the only tourists on the island. The villas were recently fully refurbished and are modern and comfortably equiped, including full mosquito protection. They are perfect for relaxing, looking to the sea (depending on season waiting for passing whales) and walking along the waterline or through the island and its villages. There is hardly a place to be found elsewhere of such a tranquility. Since the island is quite isolated and supply limited, food is mainly based on that produced locally. However, ordering in addition to breakfast as well lunch and dinner, which is fully recommended, served by the very friendly manager on your terrace, allows to note which plentiful and varied meals the Cook Islanders produce from their local offer. The meals are so tasteful and attractively presented that the quantity provided is easily underestimated. Mangaia Villas is definititely the wrong place for slimming. Renting the quite new RAV4 offered by the Villas adds to the comfort, but as well the offered scooters would do it. The support by the manager is thoroughly and cordial. However, it is nice to establish as well contacts to the inhabitants of the island, which are, due to the few tourists finding the way to Mangaia, a bit hesitant but after doing the first step really friendly and welcoming.
