I nice quiet, convenient hotel in downtown Newburyport. The breakfast is fantastic. We have stayed a few times and it’s our go to place in town.

Wonderful Birthday Weekend at the Garrison!

My husband and I stayed in Newburyport for the first time over our birthday weekend and we had such a lovely stay at the Garrison. The hotel was so beautiful, and the location was so so walkable and perfect! The breakfast was made to order, which was a treat. Overall we had a fabulous time at the Garrison in Newburyport!

Garrison is a beautiful inn with beautiful chandeliers and lovely rooms! The breakfast was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive! We will be going back soon!

Lovely, classic boutique hotel within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Comfortable beds, elegant furnishings and beautifully quiet. Nice custom breakfast. I'm a repeat guest and feel quite at home here. Would be great if they had a pub or cocktail hour instead of evening tea time.

We loved our stay at the Garrison hotel. The location cannot be beat! Loved the historic nature of the inn. Staff were pleasant and the made-to-order breakfast was a real bonus. Facility was clean. The Inn fell short of a five star rating for two reasons - one is an easier fix than the other. The bed in our room was uncomfortable the first night, but in subsequent nights, our backs, neck and shoulders began to ache and getting a decent sleep was elusive. The mattress really needs to be replaced. (Room 307.) The other more minor inconvenience was the towels. The bath towels are so small you cannot easily wrap them around yourself. They do provide robes, but larger bath towels seems like a reasonable enhancement for a boutique hotel. We would love to return and if we do, we'll ask for a room with a newer mattress. Thanks to the staff for a very nice stay.

Cute hotel, but warm in the summer

We had a pretty good stay here. The hotel is in an old historical building and they did a good job of incorporating those older aspects with new, more modern ones. The bed was very comfy, the shower was new, and the breakfast was fantastic. They have a pretty decent breakfast menu, but the chef also says he’ll make anything you want. It didn’t take very long either and it was very good. They even had some pretty fancy options! The hotel has free tea and snacks available starting at 7 pm. While we attended and thought it was cute, we were the only ones there. It might be better to move up the time for this event so it’s not when people are having dinner and dessert and is instead at a more typical tea time. Our biggest complaint about this hotel was the AC. We were there during a heat wave, and our window AC unit was working really hard and barely made the room cool. They also didn’t have any fans available to help circulate the air. I know Massachusetts isn’t always hot, but it gets hot enough often enough that I think upgrading the AC/fan system is worthwhile. Overall, we enjoyed staying here and would stay again, but not in the summer.

Family Outing/ Baptism to Newburyport Mass.

This was a lovely Older and quaint hotel! I was there right before the season started so there was only six or seven guest stain in the hotel at the time. There was always somebody at the front desk and they were very nice. There was a gentleman that made me food to order exactly as I wanted in the kitchen each morning, which was great!! The room was very comfortable and well decorated. The location was just a couple blocks from walking into the main part of the town so it was great and convenient. I had read Previous reviews that people said that there was nobody at the front desk when they arrived and seem like it was sort of deserted, but I don’t agree with that at all. It’s a very quiet and peaceful with a lot of charm. There was a young woman named Lauren at the front that I talked to quite a bit, and she explained a lot about the town and the history of the hotel. Everybody was very friendly. It is not a haunted hotel !! I didn’t see anything or smell any of the chocolate chip cookies that they said I might smell coming up from the basement. LOL. I know this hotel might be slightly higher priced than a few of its competitors that I also looked at, but my family stayed at some of those hotels, and I thought that the choice I made here at the garrison was a better choice. I would recommend you stay here if you want an old-fashioned and and quaint place to relax and also be located just blocks away from the main town And water!’

Breakfast was outstanding. We enjoyed the Tea "Party" both nights we stayed. The desserts provided with the were excellent! The checkin process was the best we've ever had, quick and easy. We loved our room and the wood shutters made sleeping in quite easy.
