Fantastic location and the staff are absolutely lovely. You will not regret staying here at all. The breakfast is great and a cold bottle of Lion beer after a full day surfing in the sun is so good it makes me want to go back immediately. Try to stay in room 07, it's the best.

This place is unreal if you want to chill in the jungle and see some monkeys !! Great vibe very chilled , food was great , the beach about 1 minute away is insane
the jasper is simply wonderful! upon arrival you are requested to take your shoes off, as it is more a home like atmosphere you want sand free as opposed to a hotel (there are only 10 guest rooms). it’s surround super thin tall palm trees with beautiful peacocks roaming around; amoung other local furries friends. we happened to stay in two different rooms, by choice, and both were fabulous and unique. outdoor/indoor bathroom and guest rooms - you literally had nearly floor to ceiling room windows that open to absolute beauty, and then you go into the bathrooms and it’s permanently open air yet perfectly private at the same time. the bed is comfortable and the room clean in general. less than 50m walk from beach and the beach is BREATHTAKING. back to the jasper though, meredith one of the hotel managers, was extra ordinarily helpful and super fun! we even went to see some local music together. food at the rooftop restaurant was good and fair prices. we enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed an extra night, needless to say, we are already planning our trip back in july! we recommend the jasper a thousand times.
This is a new hotel and is owned by an Australian guys that clearly has too much money and no accountability. It was bad on two fronts: function and service.
First on function - you are basically staying in a tent. There is no ceiling or external walls in the bathroom, so all your neighbours (including those in the restaurant above you) can hear every noise you make and you theirs. Fairly gross really. You can also hear every pot, pan and plate bang and crash above you when the kitchen starts at 630am. You also need to brave the elements to go to the toilet. On Saturday, this meant using the toilet in a monsoonal storm and getting soaked due to the aforementioned lack of walls or ceiling. The lack of sealed doors, windows also meant we were covered in insects when we were trying to sleep.
On the service... Well. If you can find a staff member, don't expect much. They basically look at you, then go back to chatting amongst themselves. We sat in the restaurant for 10 mins until we finally had to go and ask for a menu and to order. Then someone told us they had no cold beer but would we like a hot one?
All in all, definitely not worth the $$$ per night.
We chose Jasper House due to its remote and beautiful location, pool, and spacious rooms and we were not disappointed. True it was tricky to find from the main road but once we arrived we could walk to the beach in a few minutes and also had our own uninterrupted view of jungle and coast. We were a bit warm in the nights (we stayed July) without aircon but we chose this setup and also appreciated being able to cool off in the pool. The food was very nice.
The one observation I would make is that compared to a couple do other hotels we visited for a change of scene for lunch / dinner, we wondered if Jasper House has lost its identity a little. Despite, I think, being quite full, there wasn't much buzz about the place and I wasn't sure who the owner was. In this regard it was a little impersonal although I would point out the service was very good.
We ended up staying five nights at Jaspers and could have stayed more. It is located at THE best beach in SrI Lanka with less than a five minute walk to the beach. The design of the rooms are amazing - open air, so you are able to watch monkeys, peacocks, monitor lizards all from the comfort of your couch. The swimming pool actually had cool water in it so it was so very refreshing and many hours were spent lounging around the pool. If I return to this area again I would still stay at Jaspers.
Jasper House is a gem by the most beautiful beach we saw in Sri Lanka. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. The rooms are completely open with a few of palm trees with monkeys running around. The bathrooms are open also which can be a bit awkward at times even though they are mostly covered by the wall. I would love for them to make the common area/dining more inviting with music or a bar, it would add a lot to the ambience of the hotel! Overall a great find in Sri Lanka off the beaten path.
