So far from anything, so hard to get to, but so worth it. The local Navajo Guides with Jeeps for hire will laugh when you say you're thinking of doing this 17-mile loop through the most famous buttes of Monument Valley in a small car, but go ahead and do it. Carefully. We saved $170 and were able to maneuver through the gulleys and rocks just fine. Driving ourselves enabled us to decide how long to spend at each spot, and whether to keep driving or get out and hike at our whim. Take water and lunch! #Navajo #MonumentValley #Arizona #landscape

Facility was clean and nice. However, it is very new and seemed kind of sterile - no artwork on walls, vinyl flooring, no extra blankets. Construction was actively on-going. Nothing around the condos in the way of food and beverage, or any retail at all, Have to drive to get to any of this.

Valley Drive, located near the Utah-Arizona state line in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, is a 17-mile scenic loop through one of the most iconic landscapes in the Southwest, USA. This spot along the road is named John Ford Point, after the director who used it as a location for numerous Western films. Visitors can pay a few dollars to a local horse owner who is stationed in the parking lot to recreate the famous image of a horse rider perched on the edge of the plateau. This horse was aptly named “Pistol”.

So I drove through the night, to get here before sunrise. Unfortunately the trail is closed until the visitor center is open, which was after sunrise. I was able to race down the trail and see why some 120-200 Navajo called this home at one point. It is perfectly placed to get shade through morning and a spring is nearby.
