Wonderful

Wow this was such a highlight of our trip! Def wortg the trip! The onsen was amazing, the rooms were beautiful ,the dinner and breakfast experience delicious, and the staff super sweet. One thing to note, this is about an hr bus ride from Takayama station! We cut it really close because we didn't realize how far it was, if you get there after a certain time, they can't serve you dinner so plan accordingly

This ryokan is the best location in Matsumoto! Along with being beautiful and super clean, you literally walk out the front door and you’re on an idyllic street with restaurants and shops. It’s also walkable from the train station, and a short walk to the castle. If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan, this is it! The host also speaks great English and is very helpful if you need anything.

We stayed here two nights while traveling to kamikochi and shinhotoka ropeway, the staff were super sweet and spoke English and Japanese! There is no restaurant on the property but they have a map of a few within walking distance! The Onsens were so nice, and the rooms were so clean! Would definitely stay again!

Very friendly and helpful staff, better English than I expected. More or less traditional ryokan, with tatami floors. The room is spacious during the day when the futons are rolled up (the staff does that for you), and the futons are very comfortable to sleep on. Breakfast included in the price of the room was excellent. Dinner was extra, but not expensive--about $25 for a first-class, elegant Japanese dinner. The staff were very helpful, even picking us up at the bus terminal (much...

Great stay! Large room. Breakfast and lunch were an amazing experience.

The location is a bit off-track, but the area is nice and worth a detour if you have a car. The building itself is ordinary but the room is very spacious and comfortable, with some view to the mountains and valley, and some to the next buildings. The onsen is nice though not particular. Service is very attentive and helpful. But by far the best part was the dinner (and breakfast), which was Michelin-star level, multi-course beautiful and tasty dishes.

This was our first stay in a traditional Japanese ryoken and we had a great stay. The welcome was fantastic with a tour round the hotel and tea served in our room. We also enjoyed the spa and the Japanese breakfast.

Perfect

Stayed in the glamping tent with my family of four (including a 5 & 9 yr old). Such a wonderful spot - tent was comfy w/ a dedicated toilet/sink room in a separate adjacent little building. Had a wonderful fire pit which the staff lit for us in the evening at the time we requested (on our was back from dinner we texted them from their very helpful app). All amenities in the main building were super clean, very new, and meticulously curated in a minimalist style. It had (x3) private Onsen baths...

Ryokan Sansui is a peaceful retreat with beautiful mountain views, private outdoor onsen rooms, and the most dedicated, attentive and kind staff. We felt completely pampered by their service and hospitality. The meals were traditional omekase using local and seasonal ingredients. The food is clearly made with love, pride, and care. The japanese-style room had a sweeping view of the mountains and comfortable futon beds. We had plenty of space to unpack and do our morning yoga in the room. The...

This is a hotel in the middle of mountain in Hirayu area. Above the cleanness, comfort level..... I stay there couple of days. The hotel staff pick me up to bus station in Hirayu (5 Km away). I saying that the hotel does not have any officially shuttle program. They are go out their way to help me catch up with the bus schedule so i do not waste my time of bus station for waiting. And most importantly i have enough time to visit Kamokochi national park. I really appreciate the altitude...

Tyler, Mari, Andy and Mio were fantastic hosts, The kaiseki-style food was amazing (I opted for the half board; the ultimate way to go). From the moment I had walked into the ryokan, I had felt like my dreams had come true. From what I had only imagined and seen in anime/videos to actually experiencing a traditional ryokan with traditional Japanese-styled rooms. Equipped with tatami mats, shogi screens, and breath-taking views (I had the second floor room with a view of Mt. Hattoh). The room...

Excellent meals and clean, comfortable room

Very nice family-run ryokan that's on its fourth generation. Public transit won't get you there easily- but you don't have to worry- you can call ahead and they will pick you up Matsumoto station (at 3:30 or 5:30 pm.) They will also drive you out in the morning so you can catch public transit for your sightseeing. Great food, will make you want to come back for dinner! Definitely get their house made soba at least once. Rooms were large, comfy and traditional; a nice break from the...
