CHATEAU-MUSEE GRIMALDI - CAGNES SUR MER. A stronghold build c. 1300 on a hilltop by the Grimaldis of Cagnes, transformed into a palatial home c. 1620 the reception rooms and staterooms are in the Baroque style, splendid trompe-l'oeil paintings. The Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, Cote d'Azur. In 1907 the Impressionist painter, Pierre Auguste Renoir, bought Les Collettes, a pretty pale stone farmhouse set in a garden of olive trees looking out over the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean Sea. Like others, he had fallen in love with the clear colors and the quality of light of the south of France.
