This town with art at its core is surrounded by mountains, lakes, miles of trails and the sparkling blue ocean.

Experience the combination of a simple, old-town setting with stunning nature, trails and ocean views at Port Orford. Due to its low population and tranquil ambiance, the area is rarely crowded. Relax at a resort and explore the charming shops and galleries without having to wait in lines.

The town was built around its port, hence its name. Admire the sports boats in their slips and visit the gift shop and small restaurant. The ocean view on a sunny afternoon is stunning. In rough weather, take up storm watching as enthralling waves crash into the port.

The port is one of few dolly docks in the country, where boats are picked out of the water daily because the harbor is too shallow to host them. For a little adventure, kayak or windsurf in the ocean or on Floras Lake north of the town. Rent equipment near the lake, which also overlooks the ocean.

Choose a path for an afternoon hike against a backdrop of mountains, forests and the ocean. Trails vary in difficulty from the calm Port Orford Heads, where you can spot whales in the summer months, to the challenging Humbug Mountain, with its 1,761-foot (535-meter) summit. Catch the fish of the day along the dock. Several areas on the jetty allow fishing, although you must show a valid license.

Visit one of the many local galleries in the town. Marvel at the iron and bronze sculptures at Hawthorne Gallery or the digital modern art at Point B Studio. Stay at one of the locally owned hotels and resorts and dine at a restaurant serving fresh seafood from the area.

Port Orford is in south Oregon, just 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of the California border via Route 101. Southwest Oregon Regional Airport is the same distance north of the town. On the way south from Bandon, this is a scenic spot to unwind and take in the culture before moving on to Gold Beach, another 30 miles (50 kilometers) south.

Convenient and has a view of the beach. It's a little far back from the waves. The breakfast is good with biscuits and gravy, waffles, raisin toast. The step down into the breakfast room is difficult for elderly. Maybe, take it to your room. The room was clean. Broken glass bottle by the parking ...

This place brought back memories of my grandpa’s cabin and was wonderful. The place is more charming than modern and we really enjoyed that. Lots of fun toys and some fun games. One room has a curtain instead of a door which was no issue but just so you know. There’s a rental house right next to ...
