“An older property that will be considered characterful or dated depending on your viewpoint. I enjoyed it including the narrow stairs and corridors, and the historic nature of the room, which was not lacking for the usual amenities. I had an excellent dinner and the Full English Breakfast was all you could wish for. The staff were attentive and friendly. It is a short walk from the 24 hr public car park and is in the centre of town.”

“The hotel was conveniently located near to Stansted airport on a nearby services and parking was only £5. The room was fine, but the bathroom had a bit of a musty/ damp smell and the door needed some TLC as all the paintwork was scratched, looked like it belonged on a public toilet rather than hotel room. Did what it needed to do for the cost.”

“This hotel does NOT have airport shuttle. We spent half an hour tugging heavy luggage to find shuttle stop. The man at the desk said they did everything to take the shuttle info down from web sites in vain. I want to believe him.”

“Great stay. Thank you”

“A very comfortable country pub, with great food, top chef and well kept beer. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. My room was a tad small and basic but the bathroom was modern and hey this is a 16th century building and I enjoyed my stay.”

“Loved this place so much. It seems to be a local hangout which was fantastic. It’s on a busy street, so expect some noise, but other than that was fantastic. Already planning my next trip back!”

“6 minutes drive from Stanstead so 6am at the airport was easy peasy. The room was functional, the bed comfortable.”

“On arrival Expedia booking which I paid in advance was declined but I wasn't informed so tried to pay with amex , but they wouldn't accept it. So had to pay on alternative card. Room was hot and stuffy, there were no bath towels or shower gel. The small kettle had a very small cable which was not detachable and was a stretch to get to a socket which I subsequently burnt my hand on trying to pour a drink. No hot food in the hotel incl evening meals and sparse continental breakfast was poor”

“Lovely modern room in restored old building. Staff were helpful, and both dinner and breakfast in the pub were great.”
