The hotel location is amazing, central and walking distance to Moscone Center, Chinatown, and public transportation.
Open key was a bit of a hassle my guest was never able to utilize their key. Our room sheets had black stains and we asked for tv remote batteries 3 days in a row, but never got any so could not watch tv. Also there is no ice machine but you get an ice bucket in your room.
This place was very cool. I’d stay here again IF I were much younger but we stayed with our toddler and that was a bit difficult. It was in a cool location next to China Town and we ate good food nearby.
So, there aren’t many rooms with bathrooms in them, but there is a useable and clean shared shower and toilet in the hall. It’s downtown so it’s loud there. There is no AC in the rooms we stayed in so we had to open the windows and the first night we heard other patrons all night, and the second night we heard traffic all night.
Room smelled like pee and there were flies. No AC, bed was very stiff, and there was no bathroom. Bathroom was a shared facility out in the hall with the rest of the floor. No staff on hand. All communication was done via text. It was so bad, we left and made a new reservation elsewhere even tho they refused to give a refund.
This location + the vintage property was exactly what I wanted and expected. Incredible old school elevator, art everywhere, & crown-work molding, for those of us into that. Please read the listing & know what to expect. If you don’t read carefully, don’t be rude to staff about it. I had no issues with One Key, fabulous housekeeping, CLEAN facilities. Water pressure was the only challenge on the 4th floor, but welcome to gravity in San Francisco; no air conditioning but usually unnecessary in San Fran. I would absolutely stay here again.
Yes the room was very clean and the desk person was very helpful with showing me how to work the key, would stay there again!

Disliked: Amenities
Stayed for a few nights. Hotel staff was mostly nice, few of the front desk people weren’t very social and didn’t really seem that helpful for some basic requests, light bulb out in the bathroom, never was fixed while I was there.
Room was clean and beds were comfortable enough.
Very bad water pressure in the shower, basically a step above a trickle of water. Mentioned it to the front desk and was told no one else had mentioned it, no other response on the subject.
Probably would look at other options in the area for my next stay.
Great costumer service! Clean room, great amenities. I highly recommend the hotel. It’s a great value, great location and close to everything San Francisco.
If a hotel and a hostel had a baby...tah dah! Hotel Des Arts. First impression was not great because of the tight quarters and quirky bathroom set up, but we ended up enjoying the place very much. The comfy bed was the best part. The top blanket wasn't exactly clean, but the rest was ok. It took about 5 minutes to get the hot water flowing for a shower in the evening, but was quick in the morning. There isn't anyone at the front desk, but you can call them with the phone there. They were helpful and let us stay a bit later than 11am. The luggage storage locker is not supervised and was left open most of the times we were in the eating area. We didn't feel great about leaving our stuff there. Plus, your key codes expire. We couldn't get back into our room when we had permission to stay until noon. Another woman was out on the street as her front door code expired when she came back to get her luggage. These issues can be solved, but might take extra time to sort them out. We found the streets to be safe and enjoyed walking to other Alcatraz tour ferry and a Giants baseball game. We would stay here again.

The room was nice, however one of the windows did not open. There was no late check out even though the Expedia reservation stated it was available.

Overall it was a good stay. The house keeping service was great, clean room.
Location is fantastic. They did a great job considering it is an old property. Room is clean and great shower pression. A few issues: very noisy. I do not mean outside noise. I could hear people in the corridor, slamming doors, next room shower, people walking upstairs, etc. the whole night. You need a phone with Bluetooth and GPS enabled to open your room door. This gave me anxiety because phone is usually almost dead at end of day and there was nobody in reception to open door.
Hotel des Arts is only 2 Star but it is quite stylish, clean and reasonably priced. The location is very good and central, importantly close to the Cafe de la Press where even a spoiled European can find the Cappuccino and specifically the Croissants very good.
