A lovely stay, would definitely recommend

The hotel is placed in an ideal location to be able to access the attractions easily. It is a lovely looking place to stay, being well decorated and clean looking. Our room was great, very clean and serviced daily. We would definitely recommend a stay here and will be looking to return again when we are able (with a baby on the way we're not sure when!). Thank you for a lovely stay!

Lovely hotel, great character, amazing location.

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend there, the whole experience from check in to departure was friendly, the owner did everything she could to make our stay enjoyable without being obtrusive. It was our first trip to Scarborough and we would like to return and stay here again.

Bit disappointed!

The location was 'spot-on' as we know and stayed in the area previously. We stayed on the third floor and it took ages for the water to heat up from the taps. The ceiling looked as if it was about to come down on you and it was cold. Otherwise ok for a one night stay but have stayed in better around the St Nicholas Cliff area.

Great location and very helpful staff

Cleanliness and comfort of the hotel is moderate but the staff are very helpful, warm and welcoming. I would recommend this place for those looking for a budget hotel at a cheaper price in a perfect location.

clean hotel near beach

on arrival at hotel there was no one at reception had to wait more than half an hour for someone to give us the keys for the room this was after 12 noon. parked the car outside hotel lucky to get space but could not leave the car till reception came so we could get a parking ticket the fee is very fair £3 for 24 hours. later on we found out that we did not get the remote control for the tv so went down to reception rang the bell several times no response overall nice hotel clean good location just get someone on reception .

Friendly hotel but no free parking

The hotel is situated on a square where you need to pay for parking during the day. Unfortunately Expedia had advertised this hotel as having free parking when it does not. The owner was very helpful and managed to find us a family and friends pass and to locate the one last empty parking space in the area (at noon on a Saturday). We were very lucky that she had a pass available and managed to find us a space (she had even offered to move her own car if there was not a space available). The room at the top of the hotel (room11) was well furnished (including some lovely thick drapes she had just put up) and the bed was comfortable. It is a long way from the bed to the TV but you can sit on the chaise longue at the bottom of the bed to watch TV. It is a long way up the stairs but a small lift has been fitted in this historical (dates back to 1793) hotel.

Wonderfully welcoming experience.

From the moment we stepped in, Dorothy was the hostess with the mostest! Very knowledgeable about the local area and what was on around town, especially for my 4 year old son. Rooms lovely and clean, with a personal touch, and a TV/DVD combo so we could watch a film before bed instead of staying out too late. Ideal location, ten minute walk from train station and 5 mins to town. Steps to beach/spa complex literally over the road. Would definitely come back here.

Christmas stay

I was in Scarborough visiting relatives over the Christmas period. I was after a fairly cheap but comfortable room that allowed dogs. St. Nicholas Lodge met these criteria well. The staff were very friendly and efficient on check in.

Nice hotel to use as a base for a night out

The hotel was booked by mistake (we wanted to go to the Travelodge next door !) but as a base to use for a night out in Scarborough it was fine. The reception from the owner was inviting, the room was clean, well presented and comfy and overall we had no complaints.

One night stay

We only stayed one night but found this to be a very good handy location to shops, pubs, etc. and friendly host. We would stay here again and recommend to anyone wanting reasonable rates! Parking was available nearby!

St Nicolas Lodge

We were a little concerned at first as we thought we had booked the travel lodge next door so thought we knew what we were expecting. Although the room was a little tired, it was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very obliging and if I ever go back to Scarborough I shall try and stay here if for none of the above then for the breakfast as it sounded fantastic!

town centre location

Friendly service, but entrance could have been more inviting. Down side no breakfasts being served when we were there, but early morning walk to seafront to eat was lovely cos of nice weather, wouldn't have been ok about it if was raining! Would use hotel again for a two or three night break.

great location, very outdated and oldfashioned

Great location and lovely staff. we stayed here for a concert we attended so it was somewhere to get our heads down but i would have rather paid the extra to stay at the travelodge next door. Room was very small, outdated and had the most horrendous view of dustbins out of the window. it had a slidy door to seperate the toilet/shower from the rest of the room but if your just looking for somewhere to go after your night out. im going to stick to chain hotels from now on.

Excellent location, great landlady

We parked in the NCP for 24 hours £8.50, close by to guesthouse. It is in a great location, looking over The Grand. We were given a family room, with a partial sea view, really nice. Struggled for warm water through sink but shower was good. Beds clean and comfy and room very spacious. A previous guest's razor and shower gel was left in the shower so I wondered if it had been checked thoroughly before we arrived. h Overall, the lovely landlady, reasonable price and great location would encourage me to stop here again.
