"We arrived at 6:00 p.m. and found the receptionist occupied on the phone, completely ignoring us for several minutes. When we were finally checked in, there was confusion about our reservation, including being asked whether we had already checked in earlier and indications that our room may have been assigned to someone else.
I was traveling with my elderly mother, and we were assigned a room quite far from the lobby, which was inconvenient. The complimentary parking was located on a gravel lot about a block away from the hotel, with no continuous sidewalk leading there, making access even more difficult.
To make matters worse, I noticed an additional charge on my credit card a week later for a donation to the reserve across the street. This charge was never mentioned or explained during check-in or check-out.
The location and grounds are beautiful, but the service did not reflect the “Southern hospitality” the hotel promotes. Overall, I expected a much better guest experience."
