"We stayed for 9 nights and had a lovely stay at Lucombe Manor. Breakfast was excellent every morning, and the hotel has plenty of character. We were lucky with the weather, and the sunshine over the building gave it a real Mediterranean feel!
Our first night was disturbed by guests in the adjoining room coming and going, talking and laughing. Being an older building, you can also hear people walking past rooms at night. The manager kindly moved us the following day, which we appreciated.
We weren't informed before arrival about ongoing daytime building works. We'd planned to relax in our room as well as explore, so advance notice would have been appreciated. It was frustrating but didn't ruin our break.
The manager was lovely, and both reception staff were welcoming and helpful. When we mentioned leaving early, staff offered packed breakfasts, and the manager made arrangements for the coffee machine so we could take hot drinks. Really thoughtful gestures!
The only negative was one older lady taking breakfast orders. Her manner was abrupt, pedantic and at times rude. She repeated my wife's breakfast adjustments sarcastically. We also asked about Yorkshire Tea on our first morning and were told they didn't have any, only to be told on our last morning that they did! We were relieved when other staff took the orders, but didn't let this spoil our stay.
Overall, a genuinely enjoyable stay. Excellent breakfasts, a lovely manager and reception team, and a beautiful atmosphere."
