The plantation received its name because it was the location of Captain John Smith's "New Fort," built in 1609, located directly across the James River from the Jamestown colony. The fort was quickly abandoned due to dry rot and a rat infestation.[4] The same land was later given by Chief Powhatan to John Rolfe as a dowry for the hand of Pocahontas when Rolfe and Pocahontas married. "The room was clean and perfect, until anchor 2 days before we were to check out. We went to pull out the pull-out bed and it snapped in the middle and sunk back sideways into the sofa and stayed stuck like that. Informed the staff via text and they told me no worries and asked if we wantedmaintenance to come and fix it .We said no because we'd be checking out in a couple of days, we'd make it work. Not a big deal. Everything else was great. We've stayed there before and enjoyed our time then rip. It's nice and quiet and not crazy busy. We'll definitely be back. Backtheretimeworries"
