"Rooms were nice and big, I had a fab view across the water. Little dated and could do with a minor revamp, but that’s fine. Staff were nice in the hotel. Breakfast was very nice and good for the price (although dining room was a bit difficult to find) Service was slow in the bar area for evening meal, didn’t feel overly welcoming. Food was nice but they made a mistake with a nut allergy that I declared. This was handled really well by the manager - he was apologetic, handled it with the kitchen staff, and replaced & comped our meal. I was absolutely fine and I’m pleased with how it was managed in the end, but more attention needs to be given in the kitchen to stuff like this. Location was good, easy for us to walk to and from to get to everywhere we wanted to in York. "

"The room was very small and dark. The bed was soft and the pillows rock hard. The door wouldn’t lock which as a single woman was very worrying for me. I called reception and was told I could move room but it was 11pm and I was very tired and was undressed. Consequently I had a poor nights sleep as I was worried someone could get in. There was no bedside light so I had to leave my phone on all night. The EV chargers were extortionate. "

"Overall was good. But confusing with breakfast cost as I hadn’t prepaid. Was told at check in cost was £15 for breakfast or £10 if paid in advance. Paid £10 for the first morning with no problem. Next night went to reception to pay for next morning and was told there was no discount and cost was £15 which I declined. No big deal but an inconsistent experience. Nice hotel overall."

"The good bits: Room was a good size, bed was comfy, as we're the pillows and everything was very clean. Breakfast time booked to avoid overcrowding, function room activities couldn't be heard from the bedrooms. Not so good bits: window was edged with green growth externally, bathroom mirror lights not working, dated shower fitting over the bath. Hospitality tray ok, usual choice, breakfast not very inspiring and not very warm. Carpets in communal areas showed signs of damage and were stained in parts. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a decent enough place but not overly impressed especially as the pool and spa access is outside the hotel - not great on a cold and windy evening"

"It was okay for what we needed and the price reflected that. It felt a bit tired and in need of some tlc. We only needed the room for one night after going to see someone at the arena. Great location for that within walking distance luckily we arrived at the hotel early because parking spaces are limited. The room was very compact and so was the toilet and shower facilities, the only refreshments that were available were in the reception and that was quite chaotic due to the small area it was in and the fact you had to pay for a token to then put in a machine so we didn’t bother. They did have a vending machine but it was too crowded when we wanted to use it so again didn’t bother. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. So don’t expect anything more than what you pay for and you’ll be fine. "

"An interesting split between the old and the new. Stayed in the new part, wished I would have stayed in the old part. You may need a map to find your way around. Plan your breakfast time it’s a small dining room for a lot of guests. Excellent grounds. In those infamous words “ I will be back”"

"Breakfast was ok lack of pastries and hot food not refilled - dried up eggs and sausages hash browns were dried up too barely any bread jam and marmalade in an open bowl very unhygienic should be individual pots . No orange juice . Good selection of tea bags . Room was moist from roundabout outside early in morning . Was good after a midnight check in could get a cold drink in the bar "
