Nice different bed and breakfast and very friendly
Very helpful hosts. Unusual tent like cabins with Japanese style mattress on floor. Nice breakfast, we borrowed cycles from the owners and went up the Taroko Gorge for which it is ideally situated. Not many evening food options
My parents like to relate things to the hit CNN show "Parts Unknown" and say that certain parts of our trips that were particularly fun, culturally enlightening, or true connections with locals are "Bourdain Moments".
This was one of those moments.
The hosts of Yu's B&B were incredibly generous, offering us their homemade wine and fruits and even giving us a lift to Taroko park when the husband was going into work. I don't normally write reviews, but their immense hospitality deserves recognition.
The rooms were clean, beds nice, and views (from the top floor of the house) beautiful. It's a little out of the way (in the country) but only a 3 minute drive from the Taroko Train Station.
Staying here makes you part of the family. Our hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome from giving us rides into town to recommending the best tour guide and driver to sharing the delicious fruits they grow themselves as a pleasant end to our evenings. The neighborhood is very remote which limits restaurant and shopping choices but if you are looking for a quiet experience at the edge of some of Nature's most beautiful sights then this is the place. We stayed in the cabins and the beds are equivalent to a camping bedroll which was really exciting for our kids, a little less so for us adults. Overall we had a really unique and awesome experience!

Disappointing
The location is not easy to find even though we had a car with GPS. Our room is not connected to a bathroom, so we had to use a separate one (but we were told it's not shared). Breakfast was plain and limited. On two occasions when we came back to the room, we found the air-conditioner switched off and curtains closed. This is not ideal as we'd like to have some privacy. The mattress is way too short for my partner, he's only 5'10".
The perks are that it's in the middle of a village, so you can go out and take a serene walk at night, host offered us home-made alcohol and fruit (I have to say I wasn't impressed).

Good Chinese hospitality
We really enjoyed Mr and Mrs Yu's warmth and personal welcome. They make their own wine and jams which I think were excellent. Breakfast was piping hot and there was a good variety of tasty and nutritious dishes that went with the rice porridge.

chalet to mountain taroko gorge
This is not a hotel rather a room or chalet in a family run business. .we hv the wooden chalet outside the main building and must say room size is small. .location is far from any walking distance from either tbe train station or from Taroko visitors center ( highway bus )..you will need to call the lady owner to make arrangements for pickup or direction to taxi. .Surrounding is beautiful n farm stay is wht i may described as coming fr Australia. ..breakfast is simple. .and if the price is less than what we paid for ( 284 $) for two nites on such site is rather steep...couple owner are very warm so does make you feel at home..background is the gorge n you may get some nice pics in the morning. .n for fresh air
Yu's B&B was a great place to stay for our short vacation in Taroko National Forest. The rooms were clean and comfy, and the staff was exceptionally friendly. Hot breakfast every morning was good and complimentary evening drinks and local fruits were a treat. The place was a bit difficult to find because it was tucked away in local farms, but it was nice and secluded from any traffic and city noise.
This is actually a home stay. There are no amenities in the vicinity and location isn't easy to find if your driver does not know the way. Having said that, the host is wonderful, extremely friendly and helpful. One should call when you arrive and they will provide your cab driver directions. We booked this place because it is near Toroko Gouge, however one can't get to the gouge without your own transport. The host was extremely helpful and assisted us with arranging a guide (with car) immediately upon our arrival at her place and we were on our way to the sights within the hour. Truly enjoyable and great hospitality!
This is a little gem. It's surrounded by fields, and only a couple of minutes drive from the entrance to Taroko Gorge. Room was clean, spacious and well equipped. They provided us a mattress to put on the floor for our 2 year old without any problem. Ignore other comments about being hard to find; our GPS led us right to the door. Simple but homemade and local breakfast. Real highlight is the friendly family who own and run the place. Mum (who is from one of the native tribes) cooks breakfast. Dad sells local handicrafts in the gorge by day - and gave us a lift back down several km long trail in his motorized tricycle when we were in danger of being out in the dark. Son and his fiancee love to spend evenings chatting to guests drinking their homemade fruit wine, sharing their knowledge of Taiwan and learning about other cultures. It helps if you speak Chinese but they also speak some English. All in all, such a refreshing change from big hotels.
