I only stayed 1 night and the hotel was lovely. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were lovely too. Dinner in the restaurant was ok at best. Breakfast was better.
We stayed for our wedding anniversary, really enjoyed our stay, the quality of the hotel was outstanding . We ate in the hotel restaurant, the food and service was excellent. We’d recommend this hotel highly to any thinking of staying on the Isle of Wight.
Lovely historic hotel in a great location with a garden overlooking the Solent. The room was beautifully furnished and presented and we experienced a consistently high standard of customer service especially in the restaurant. Whilst I do understand that it’s important to share terms and conditions prior arrival so they’re clear, I did find the tone of the wording in the welcome email I received a little threatening. Having said that, we both enjoyed our stay immensely and hope to be back soon.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Great location
Receptionists were friendly and helpful- upgraded room was a bonus and nice view. Bed was far too soft for me and you do get some noise from the street and bars around. The windows are single pane so use your ear plugs which are provided. Shower was nice but leaks all over the floor due to poor workmanship - aside from that the room was nice a comfortable - clean and provided all necessary items required. The outdoor patios and gardens are the highlight of the George- great setting and nice ambience - however- again watch out for the prices on the drinks - one pint of Camden and one Aperol £22.50!! My only major negative would be the price per night at the hotel - again I appreciate it’s the high season and the location is perfect- but somewhat over the top especially when I’m comparing this to other hotels with similar locations at a more sensible price. Would I stay again- maybe not- I would look for alternative hotels in or nearby Yarmouth. This is just my view and I’m in no way trying to make out that the George isn’t worth a visit- it is- but just be mindful.
From start to finish the stay was outstanding
A special birthday getaway
Reception staff really friendly waiting and bar staff friendly
Room and view was absolutely amazing
Absolutely loved our stay here - great hotel - location - good - service. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been but we are already planning a return. Room was lovely - very clean - comfy bed. Would definitely recommend
We had a wonderful stay. Loved the hotel and the terrace where we had drinks and our delicious evening meal. We liked the historic character of the hotel and particularly the fun George portraits on the main staircase. The room was very comfortable and well equipped and all the staff couldn’t do enough to help you. Breakfast was very good and served in the conservatory. As you are in the prime position in Yarmouth you also have all the cafes, restaurants and shops right on your doorstep. Very convenient for the ferry.
Great time in the bar/restaurant area, hotel so-so
The best thing about this hotel is the amazing terrace beach/bar and restaurant. Brilliant holiday vibe on a sunny day - you could be in Ibiza. The food is excellent and service around restaurant/bar very good. Once you get to the first floor of the hotel it all looks very tired and is very different to the ground floor. Carpets are threadbare in places in the hallways. The family room was adequate but for the price was a bit grotty in places, in particular the bathroom. There was no plug socket near the mirror so I had to dry my hair using a socket in the wardrobe and using the tv as a mirror! We had to complain about the rug when we arrived it was all crinkled and big folds - a real trip hazard. It was the first thing you noticed - a massive colourful crumpled rug on the floor. Weird how they thought this was ok and even more weird that maybe no one else had complained prior. They straightened it a little but it needs to be removed. Milk isn't provided in the fridge but you can request it - but it didn't materialise the first evening and the coffees weren't replenished either one day. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent and service great too. The only advantage of staying here is that you get guaranteed tables outside etc for drinks/dining. Im sure there are other better hotels locally. From the outside this is the most unattractive venue in Yarmouth, where everything else looks very pristine.
Lovely building and location, nice touches in the room but marred by poor service and the horrendous amount of noise. On arrival we asked for a quiet room but were given a room on the first landing which meant we could hear every conversation in reception and every guest coming up the stairs and opening doors and closing doors. We could hear every footstep in the room upstairs and noise from the room next door. We asked to change rooms but were told the hotel was full and the noise would stop when the restaurant closed. It didn’t, it got worse. At 11:30pm when the vacuuming started, my husband had to go down in his pajamas and tell them to stop as we were trying to sleep. The vacuuming stopped but the banging and talking carried on until after midnight. I got maybe two hours sleep. Service was poor, there was no milk in the room so we rang down and asked for some and it didn’t turn up. I was really looking forward to staying here but it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Such a shame because there were some nice things about it but the noise was intolerable.
