"I' ve never a bad review before - I have worked in hospitality and retail for many years so I know how tough it is.
This hotel benefits from an excellent location in the centre of Oslo. I also observed some brilliant service by some of the employees to other guests in the 'Host Office' - but that's where the good stuff ends.
Check in was a disaster. The self serve machines eventually recognised my booking from my phone number (it rejected my passport and email). The machine told me my room wasn't ready and to see a 'Host'.
The lady who 'helped' me on the desk looked at me like something she had trod in and was stuck to her shoe when I explained what was happening on the machine. 'ID' she barked. After swiping my passport and huffing abit, she put my passport on desk with two key cards and barked '316'. And that was it. No explanation of where to go, no confirmation of stay length, nothing about facilities - just '316'!
As for room 316, if you like bare walls, lots of external noise, broken temperature controls, no safe, nothing to drink out of, mouldy bathroom ceiling, leaking shower, broken shower fittings - you will love this room.
I expected minimal budget accomodation when I booked to stay - but cheap isn't always cheerful!
I have cancelled forthcoming Citybox stays elsewhere not because of the room, but because of the behaviour of that one person in the 'Host Office' . Such a shame."
"Great location with easy access to all public transport. Comfy bed, very helpful staff, and a big shoutout to the housekeeping team for keeping the room spotless. There was a good selection of tasty breakfast options. My only small wish is that the pillows were bigger. Finally, a big thank you to the front desk staff for their friendly smiles and willingness to help."
"From the moment I checked in until I left everything was excellent. Staff were super friendly and the room very well appointed (except those silly fridges… why can’t I have room to place things in the fridge). The one thing I would love to see is an exit from level 1 or is it 2 directly to the train station. Lugging luggage up that ramp was a struggle."
"Breakfast was 1st class, lots of choice staff were very friendly and helpful, room was spacious, loved the under floor heating. Building work going on across the road but can’t be helped 10/10"
"Cozy place, very friendly, nice atmosphere and affordable (considering it is Oslo at least).
To have a small room with a little kitchenette and my own bathroom was absolutely perfect for me.
There are however two minor downsides in my experience.
Firstly, there was dust on top of the stove fan and kitchen cabinet. Not a big deal but a little gross.
Secondly, and this was a larger inconvenience, the ventilation was very loud. I complained the same evening as I checked in. Asked for another room. Which I could not get. The message was that the janitor will come check next day. (Since this day, my check-in day, was unfortunately a holiday/off-day there.) I got free earplugs. Next evening I asked again (I had been out during day) and then the message was that the janitor had been there and that they acknowledged that the ventilation was abnormally loud. Which was a relief. But they could not fix it then. They could come back the next day to try fixing it. I asked again for a new room. And this time I got it. Same thing in that room so I decided to stay. Also glad unpacked everything now so bigger hustle changing room.
Third day they had been there to fix it. Still somewhat loud but not annoyingly loud anymore. Was hoping for a more complete fix but this was okay. They were at least moderately responsive to my requests. Could have been worse.
But overall I still recommend this place. And I am open to coming back."
"This was a beautiful hotel and the staff were just as lovely. After train cancellations and a very late arrival the staff were so welcoming. The breakfast was very adequate and delicious. Location was great with walking distance to the Opera House and Munch museum. Would definitely stay here again."
