Beautiful wildlife refuge filled with wonderful sights. My most recent trip spotted a large Bald Eagle, a Blue Heron, plenty of ducks and more in the first few minutes of arriving. The twin barns are rustic and great for photography. The park continues further than I have yet to explore. Looking forward to more visits and adventures here.

This is great place to take the family for an easy nature hike. There's a relatively new boardwalk that juts out a mile into the Nisqually River Delta. You can capture some great views and photos of the wildlife in a variety of habitats including riparian forest, salt water tidal estuary, fresh water wetland, and salt marsh. It's a two mile hike from your car to the end of the boardwalk. What I find extremely fascinating is watching the area reform into it's natural state. Until recently, a large portion of the land was protected with earthen dikes for farming purposes. You can see the reclaimed land going through the transition from freshwater to saltwater habitat; barnacles are growing on the rocks, plants are dying, etc. There's a three dollar day use fee per group. Don't forget the bird book, binoculars, and camera. #waterlust #WeekendGetaway
