"Plenty of parking. Welcome check in Nice comfy bed with air con in room. Tea coffee and snack in the room. Shampo, conditioner, wash, and lotion in bathroom. Free wifi. Breakfast was great and staff were very friendly. I will stay here again. Stayed here to visit Beamish"

"We came over from Germany and having lived in the NorthEast a few years back we know about living in England. This is a well made up hotel inside a very old (probably listed) building hence has it charming quirks while coming across modern. Room clean, tea&coffee with bikkies on offer, bathroom well done (the usual damp spots, loose screws and peeled painting spots or painted shut windows give it the “character” we know, but it’s clean and has a mix tap over the sink AND bathtub/shower!) Breakfast was continental on a table guests needed to ask for refills quite a bit, but it came promptly. Ordered breakfast (full english or pancakes or scrambled egg & bread) was filling! The long weekend wasn’t cheap but we were on holiday and not on an english salary for foreigners anymore so could afford it these days! All in all we stayed 3 nights as a family of 3 and ate in the restaurant 2 evenings too which was a nice both times. Staff all friendly!"

"Really good value property full of friendly staff, good breakfast, excellent dinner choices and a large upstairs room with a sofa and air con. Good location for walking at Causey Arch or visiting Beamish, as well as Durham."

"Location was perfect. 4 min walk from train station and close to all shops, bars and restaurants. Bar in hotel was first class with extremely helpful staff who were always very friendly. Stayed during heatwave so the lack of air con, or a window that would open, were disappointing. Standing fan in room helped but sometimes just blew hot air around. Room in loft so was very hot. Decor/furniture very basic and dated but bed very comfortable. Bathroom needs some tlc - position of shower in bath quite dangerous. Overall, I enjoyed it but was it value for money? No, probably not."
