Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've prepared well enough. We've compiled a list of handy hints that will help get your Bampton escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a pleasure if you pack the right gear. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a spare change of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, your medications and perhaps a neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel documents and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Double-check that you don't have sharp objects (like a pocket knife) hiding in your carry-on luggage. Other restricted items include explosive or flammable substances, such as aerosol cans and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to feel as comfortable as you can. Don layers of natural fibers and take a cardigan in case you get cold. Go for a pair of flat, well-fitting shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and hiking boots in your main luggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of flying long distances is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by extended periods of inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression tights and socks are another simple way to help reduce this risk.
