No matter where you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you're well prepared. We've compiled a list of handy hints that will help get your Belmont vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a stress-free experience if you bring the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good book. Next, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, any medications and maybe a proper neck pillow as well. Lastly, remember to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items can differ between air carriers, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes knives, scissors, aerosol cans and flares. Sporting equipment like ice skates, and objects that could injure passengers, such as swords and batons, aren't allowed in the cabin either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Comfort should always be your prime concern when deciding what to wear on board. Consider your footwear choice carefully too, as swollen feet and ankles can be a side effect of flying. Roomy, closed-toed shoes work well.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance flying is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity. To prevent this from happening, take every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression tights and socks are another great idea to help reduce this risk.
