Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're well prepared. We've put together a list of essential travel tips that will get your Birchleaf vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Traveling on a plane can be easy if you pack the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a clean set of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your mobile phone, a charger, any daily medications and perhaps a blow-up neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to bring your passport, travel documents and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items can differ between airlines, the general rule to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, drills, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like golf clubs, and objects that could injure passengers, such as swords and batons, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your aim here is to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Layer up in natural-fiber clothing and take a jacket in case it gets cold in the cabin. Opt for a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- A serious condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to poor circulation. Doing foot and leg exercises in your seat helps to prevent this from occurring. Wearing a quality pair of compression tights or socks is also a wise idea.
