- Traveling on a plane can be a comfortable experience if you pack the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare pair of socks and something to read. Next, make room in your hand luggage for your electronic devices, chargers, your important medications and perhaps a neck pillow too. Lastly, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items can differ between air carriers, the general guide to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes box cutters, razor blades, spray paint and flares. Sporting equipment like ski poles, and items that could harm other people, such as firearms and ammunition, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
- Comfort should always be your main priority when selecting what to wear on board. Consider your choice of footwear with care too, as swollen feet and ankles are a common side effect of flying. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are always a sensible way to go.
- A condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises while seated is a great way to prevent this from happening. Wearing a good pair of compression socks or tights also helps reduce the risk.
