No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've planned ahead. Follow these handy tips and tricks that will get your Fifty Lakes vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane trip can be a comfortable experience if you take the right gear. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a clean pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, leave space in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, your medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to bring your passport, travel docs and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Make sure you don't have sharp objects (like a knife or scissors) hiding in one of the compartments of your hand luggage. Other banned items include explosive or flammable goods, such as fuel and fireworks, and gels and liquids in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The long, narrow aisles of an aircraft are no place for a fashion parade. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a cardigan as it can get quite cool inside the cabin during longer flights. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are also recommended.
- The condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity. Walking up and down the aisle and doing foot and leg exercises while seated is a great way to prevent this from happening. Wearing a pair of compression tights or socks also helps reduce your risk.
