- The trick to having a great flight experience is to be prepared. So, let's start with the basics: passport, boarding pass, cash and daily medications. Next, bring on board items that'll help keep you occupied, like some electronic devices or a good read. It's also a wise idea to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of headphones. Finally, be sure to pop in toiletries like a toothbrush, lip balm and a spare set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Sharp objects, like your pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosols and fireworks, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your number one priority is to feel as comfortable as you can. Don layers of natural-fiber clothing and remember to bring a jacket in case it gets cool in the cabin. Always go with roomy, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy boots in your checked baggage.
- The condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises in your seat helps to prevent this from happening. Wearing a pair of compression socks is also a wise idea.
