Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you're well prepared. We've put together a list of handy travel tips that will get your Plato escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The secret to having an awesome travel experience is to be prepared. First up, the essentials: passport, travel docs, credit cards and important medications. Next, take on board items that'll help keep you occupied, like your laptop or a juicy novel. It's also smart to pack your chargers, a quality neck pillow and a pair of headphones. Last but not least, be sure to chuck in toiletry items like a toothbrush, deodorant and a clean set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your treasured pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as spray paint, flares and poisons, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- The goal here is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Dress in loose, natural-fiber clothing and pack a cardigan just in case you get cold. Opt for flat, slightly roomy shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and heavy boots in your checked baggage.
- A serious condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing foot and leg exercises while seated helps to prevent this from happening. Wearing a good-quality pair of compression tights or socks is also recommended.
