- A plane ride can be a cruisy experience if you pack the right gear. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare change of clothes and something to read. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, any medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel papers and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Double-check that you don't have a sharp object lurking in one of the compartments of your carry-on luggage. Other prohibited items include explosive or flammable goods, such as bleach and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The long, narrow aisles of a plane are not the place for a fashion parade. Layer yourself up with comfortable clothes and pack a cardigan as the temperature can drop inside the cabin on long-haul flights. Closed-toed, flat shoes are always a good choice too.
- A serious condition by the name of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation. Doing regular foot and leg exercises in your seat helps to prevent this occurring. Wearing a high-quality pair of compression socks or tights is also a wise idea.
